The theme in this issue of Ethnologia Fennica are transnational practices and connections in the everyday lives of migrants and non-migrants in Europe. The theme issue originates from a seminar titled “Transnational Processes and Practices among European Diasporas – Ethnological and Anthropological Approaches” held at the Department of History and Ethnology, University of Jyväskylä, Finland, in November 2013. Social and satisfied? : Social uses of mobile phone and subjective wellbeing in later life

The current study examined the associations between socio-demographic background and engagement in social uses of mobile phone, and between the engagement in these uses and life satisfaction and health satisfaction in later life through the lens of digital divide and uses and gratifications theories. The data, collected from the retired Internet users (62 and older) residing in seven countries (N = 5713), were analyzed using logistic and linear regression models. Studies framing “belonging” as a key focus and a central concept of research have increased significantly in the 2000s. This article explores the dimensions of belonging as a scholarly concept. The investigation is based on a qualitative content analysis of articles published in academic journals covering a large number of different disciplines. The article poses and answers the following research questions: How is belonging understood and used in contemporary research? What added value does the concept bring to scholarly discussions? Linearized Calderón problem and exponentially accurate quasimodes for analytic manifolds

In this article we study the linearized anisotropic Calderon problem on a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary. This problem amounts to showing that products of pairs of harmonic functions of the manifold form a complete set. We assume that the manifold is transversally anisotropic and that the transversal manifold is real analytic and satisfies a geometric condition related to the geometry of pairs of intersecting geodesics. In this case, we solve the linearized anisotropic Calderon problem. The geometric condition does not involve the injectivity of the geodesic X-ray transform.
