The origin, definition and nature of the transconscious in the spirituality of Father Stăniloae
2022
In his important work, Orthodox Spirituality , Father Dumitru Staniloae considers that, besides the real existence of the subconscious, there exists in man another reality as well, comprising the superior divine energies found in the human heart and which he defined by using the modern notion of transconscious or supraconscious. Contribution: The present study emphasises on the origin, definitions and content of this concept in the work of Father Staniloae and its great importance in defining a way to know God and his salvation works, from the perspective of an anchorite and Christian mystic, engaged in the existential tension of communion with God.

Role of hexagonal structure-forming lipids in diadinoxanthin and violaxanthin solubilization and de-epoxidation
2005
In this study, we have examined the influence of different lipids on the solubility of the xanthophyll cycle pigments diadinoxanthin (Ddx) and violaxanthin (Vx) and on the efficiency of Ddx and Vx de-epoxidation by the enzymes Vx de-epoxidase (VDE) from wheat and Ddx de-epoxidase (DDE) from the diatom Cyclotella meneghiniana, respectively. Our results show that the lipids MGDG and PE are able to solubilize both xanthophyll cycle pigments in an aqueous medium. Substrate solubilization is essential for de-epoxidase activity, because in the absence of MGDG or PE Ddx and Vx are present in an aggregated form, with limited accessibility for DDE and VDE. Our results also show that the hexagonal st…
Potential active-site residues in polyneuridine aldehyde esterase, a central enzyme of indole alkaloid biosynthesis, by modelling and site-directed m…
2002
In the biosynthesis of the antiarrhythmic alkaloid ajmaline, polyneuridine aldehyde esterase (PNAE) catalyses a central reaction by transforming polyneuridine aldehyde into epi-vellosimine, which is the immediate precursor for the synthesis of the ajmalane skeleton. The PNAE cDNA was previously heterologously expressed in E. coli. Sequence alignments indicated that PNAE has a 43% identity to a hydroxynitrile lyase from Hevea brasiliensis, which is a member of the α/β hydrolase superfamily. The catalytic triad, which is typical for this family, is conserved. By site-directed mutagenesis, the members of the catalytic triad were identified. For further detection of the active residues, a model…
Multiple Short Term Effects of UV-B Radiation on the Diatom Phaeodactylum Tricornutum
1998
Increases in UV-B irradiance lead to many specific damaging effects upon the plants including damage of the thylakoid membrane, partial inhibition of PS II, decrease of chloroplast ATPase activity, loss of enzyme activities in the calvin cycle and alterations in pigment synthesis (1). Under natural conditions enhanced UV-B light is always accompanied by high intensities of photosynthetic active radiation (PAR). Damaging effects due to photoinhibitory PAR and UV-B light which lead to several oxygen radical species (2) could be reduced by photoprotection mechanisms. One of these protection mechanisms is the xanthophyll cycle. In higher plants and green algae violaxanthin is converted to zeaxa…
N,N-Diallylglycidylamine: A Key Monomer for Amino-Functional Poly(ethylene glycol) Architectures
2012
The first application of N,N-diallylglycidylamine (DAGA) as a monomer for anionic ring-opening polymerization is presented. The monomer is obtained in a one-step procedure using epichlorohydrin and N,N-diallylamine. Both random and block copolymers consisting of poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(N,N-diallylglycidylamine) with adjusted DAGA ratios from 2.5 to 24% have been prepared, yielding well-defined materials with low polydispersities (Mw/Mn) in the range 1.04–1.19. Molecular weights ranged between 2600 and 10 300 g mol–1. Isomerization of allylamine to enamine structures during polymerization depending on time, temperature, and counterion has been realized. The kinetics of the formation o…
Catalytic triad of microsomal epoxide hydrolase: replacement of Glu404 with Asp leads to a strongly increased turnover rate
1998
Microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH) belongs to the superfamily of α/β-hydrolase fold enzymes. A catalytic triad in the active centre of the enzyme hydrolyses the substrate molecules in a two-step reaction via the intermediate formation of an enzyme-substrate ester. Here we show that the mEH catalytic triad is composed of Asp226, Glu404 and His431. Replacing either of these residues with non-functional amino acids results in a complete loss of activity of the enzyme recombinantly expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. For Glu404 and His431 mutants, their structural integrity was demonstrated by their retained ability to form the substrate ester intermediate, indicating that the lack of enzymi…
1,2,4-Triazoles. Improved synthesis of 5-substituted 4-amino-3-mer-cato-(4H)-1,2,4-triazoles and a facile route to 3,6-disubstituted 1,2,4-triazolo[3…
1997
The reaction of thiocarbohydrazide with carboxylic acids at the melting temperature allows an improved preparation of the S-substituted 4-amino-3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole heterocycles. The crude 4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazoles react easily with carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid chlorides to afford the 1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-fc][1,3,4]thiadiazole ring system.
