The purpose of this thesis is to study the media representation of urban poverty in a developing country context, focusing specifically on the connections between media representation and social exclusion. The theoretical-methodological basis of this work draws from critical cultural studies and sociological media research, specifically from the theoretical assumptions of critical discourse analysis about media representation. The premise is the constructionist view that the media does not directly reflect the reality of urban poverty, but constructs journalist reproductions of it from a particular perspective and in a certain social context. Ensimmäiseksi käsittelen sukupuolistereotypioita, instrumenttien sukupuolittuneisuutta ja soittajan persoonan vaikutusta instrumenttivalintoihin. Sen jälkeen kerron myös muista instrumenttivalintoihin liittyvistä tekijöistä. Kolmanneksi käsittelen myös musiikin harrastuneisuuteen liittyviä tilastoja Suomesta ja Britanniasta. The implications of teachers’ implicit theories for moral education: A case study from Finland

Implicit theories concerning the malleability of human qualities are known to have a powerful impact on motivation and learning, but their role in moral education is an under-researched topic. In this qualitative case study, we examined the impact of implicit theories on four Finnish teachers’ practices of teaching morally and in teaching morality. The data include preliminary and stimulated recall interviews (STR) as well as classroom observations. Our results demonstrate the multiple ways in which teachers’ implicit beliefs are communicated to students and influence teacher’s interpretations and endeavors to educate the ethical capabilities of students. This study aims at evaluating the differences in size structure of population of H. tuberculata in the Gulf of Sferracavallo (northern Sicily) which experienced the co-occurrence of high exploitation and decrease of eutrophic conditions during the eighties and early nineties. Comparison of size structure showed significant differences between length frequency distributions of 1970-75s and 2002-2005, being the latter formed by smaller size green ormer.

Zróżnicowanie uzębienia u nornika zwyczajnego Microtus arvalis Pallas, 1778 z okolic Częstochowy (Wyżyna Śląska)

An analysis of the diversity in the dentition of the common vole, Microtus arvalis, from three localities near Częstochowa (Panki, Przystajń and Mstów) is provided. Populations from these areas were compared to each other in these terms. The teeth were analyzed – the first lower molar (M1) and the upper third molar of the maxilla (M3). Four basic forms of Simplex, Typica, Duplicata and Variabilis were used to study the diversity of the upper tooth. We developed our own model for studying the differentiation of the lower tooth. The present research and a comparison with literature data confirm that the subspecies M. a. duplicatus does occur in the study area.
