A multivariate powered half-normal distribution
2008
The half-normal distribution has applications in various contexts, particularly in economic analysis (to describe, for example, inefficiency variables), reliability analysis and quality control. However, it seems that, still in the recent literature, interest in forms of multivariate distribution with half-normal marginals is remained at a low level. This problem arises, for example, in the context of economic analysis when it needs to examine inefficiency variables simultaneously. Furthermore, from a robustness perspective, the distributional assumption of half-normality may show itself too strong (or the model too rigorous) and to be inconsistent with the real data, thus motivating the ne…
Efficiency of temporal sensor data compression methods to reduce LoRa-based sensor node energy consumption
2022
Purpose Minimizing the energy consumption in a wireless sensor node is important for lengthening the lifetime of a battery. Radio transmission is the most energy-consuming task in a wireless sensor node, and by compressing the sensor data in the online mode, it is possible to reduce the number of transmission periods. This study aims to demonstrate that temporal compression methods present an effective method for lengthening the lifetime of a battery-powered wireless sensor node. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the energy consumption of LoRa-based sensor node was evaluated and measured. The experiments were conducted with different LoRaWAN data rate parameters, with and without …

Party autonomy regarding jurisdiction under the property regimes regulations
2021
The main accomplishment of the Property Regimes Regulations lies in their bringing more coherence into the cross-border family law adjudication. In the field of international jurisdiction, they strive to align the competence in couples? patrimony disputes to that in succession and in separation proceedings, or else to align the competence of the courts to the applicable law. These tendencies are clearly visible in the Regulations? provisions on choice of court agreements. Namely, the Regulations allow for such agreements, but severely limit parties? choice and the possible effects of these clauses. When succession or separation proceedings are pending, it is often only possible to institute…
Teaching competences in Secondary Education : analysis of teachers’ profiles
2014
This paper reports some of the findings from a study that aimed to analyse the importance attributed by secondary education teachers from the province of Castellón (Spain) to teaching competencies and to establish professional profiles from their responses. The survey was based on a purposely designed questionnaire answered by a representative sample of 136 secondary teachers from Castellón, representing 23 school departments. From an analysis of the responses we identified three professional profiles based on the importance that teachers attribute to a range of competencies; although all the competencies were valued highly, we found that teachers still consider the traditional delivery of …

The expatriate’s family as a stakeholder of the firm : a responsibility viewpoint
2016
In this paper we argue for the recognition of the expatriate’s family as a stakeholder of the firm during the expatriation. We demonstrate why the expatriate’s family can be regarded as a stakeholder of the parent company and what kind of a stakeholder the family is. Additionally, we argue that the parent company needs to develop and apply a holistic well-being orientation to show stakeholder responsibility in the international assignment (IA) arena. We apply the theory of stakeholder salience to the IA relationship because it provides a theoretical framework for integrating the family into the expatriation process. Yet this theory does not necessarily provide a framework for assessing the …
Bloodstream Infection Incidence of Different Central Venous Catheters in Neonates: A Descriptive Cohort Study
2017
Central venous catheters (CVCs) in neonates are associated with a risk of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI). Most reports on the incidence of CLABSI in neonates focus on umbilical venous catheters (UVCs) and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). We evaluated the incidence and risk factors for CLABSI in a cohort of neonates with femoral venous catheters (FVCs), UVCs, and PICCs, with a gestational age ≥34 weeks born between January 1, 2006 and June 30, 2013. We included 2,986 neonates with a total of 656 catheters. The CLABSI incidence rate varied from 12.3 per 1,000 catheter-days in FVCs to 10.6 per 1,000 catheter-days in UVCs and 5.3 per 1,000 catheter-days …
THE ROLE OF THE CLINICAL PHARMACIST IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY
2020
Over the last few years, the Hospital Pharmacy has developed in an excellent way in Europe, proposing in many countries the clinical pharmacist as a new professional figure, and adapting its responsibilities to national health systems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and promote the prescriptive appropriateness through the close collaboration between the pharmacist and the medical team. The aspect of the dispensation of antiretroviral therapy was deepened by providing useful information to the patient on the possible undesired effects and interactions due to the polypharmacy, on the correct way of storing the drugs, and on the importance of the regularity of the polypharmacy intake…
Appropriateness of requests for human serum albumin at the University Hospital of Palermo, Italy: a prospective study
2015
Abstract OBJECTIVE: First, to assess the appropriateness of requests for albumin using current guidelines; second, to evaluate physicians' compliance with this protocol. DESIGN: Descriptive, prospective study. SETTING: 'Paolo Giaccone' University Hospital in Palermo (Italy). PARTICIPANTS: The six departments with the highest orders for albumin. INTERVENTION: An experimental, pharmacist-driven process for daily orders of albumin was activated over a period of 1 month. Pharmacy personnel handed out order forms on six different wards. Physicians were required to select one of a number of intended uses listed on the form. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Data on albumin and serum protein levels; number o…
