Photoinduced changes in phytochromes studied by means of low temperature UV-Vis spectroscopy
2018
Phytochromes are a major family of red-light-sensing kinases that control diverse cellular functions in plants, bacteria and fungi. These proteins must relay structural signals from the sensory site over large distances to regulatory output domains. To accomplish this function, they undergo rather large structural changes from one state to another. The general aim of this work was to study these structural changes and possible protonation states of the photosensory core of the bacteriophytochrome from Deinococcus radiodurans in the intermediate states of the photoreaction, which became possible to observe under low temperatures. Moreover, it was interesting to investigate the role Serine272…
Tiellä kohti uusien energiateknologioiden kaupallistumista : eri toimijoiden näkemyksiä puubiomassaa polttoaineenaan käyttävien pien- ja mikro-kokolu…
2011
What’s in the family app? : Making sense of digitally mediated communication within multilingual families
2020
Communication within contemporary families is increasingly and to a significant extent mediated through technological devices and digital applications. Although the everyday reality of many multilingual families is permeated by technology, research on their digital and language practices has been scant. This article argues for the need for eclectic approaches that draw upon theories, practices, and findings from research on transnational families and migration, digitally mediated family communication, parental mediation, multilingualism online, and family multilingualism and language transmission. Two empirical case studies are presented on multilingual family constellations in Finland in w…

Plasmid Viability Depends on the Ecological Setting of Hosts within a Multiplasmid Community
2022
Plasmids are extrachromosomal genetic elements, some of which disperse horizontally between different strains and species of bacteria. They are a major factor in the dissemination of virulence factors and antibiotic resistance. Understanding the ecology of plasmids has a notable anthropocentric value, and therefore, the interactions between bacterial hosts and individual plasmids have been studied in detail. However, bacterial systems often carry multiple genetically distinct plasmids, but dynamics within these multiplasmid communities have remained unstudied. Here, we set to investigate the survival of 11 mobilizable or conjugative plasmids under five different conditions where the hosts h…
Controversies in ameloblastoma management: Evaluation of decision making, based on a retrospective analysis
2020
Background The ameloblastoma management is still challenging to the high recurrence rates and significant morbidity associated with radical treatment. The purpose of this 10-year retrospective study was to analyze the influence of ameloblastoma type and treatment strategy on the long-term outcomes and recurrence rates. Material and Methods The retrospective analyses of 64 histologically-confirmed ameloblastoma cases was performed. The possible risk factors for recurrence and the development of complications were estimated statistically. Results The treatment strategy applied for this group of patients was the following: thirty-four patients (53.1%) were treated conservatively with enucleati…
A Statistical Approach for A-Posteriori Deployment of Microclimate Sensors in Museums: A Case Study
2022
[EN] The deployment of sensors is the first issue encountered when microclimate monitoring is planned in spaces devoted to the conservation of artworks. Sometimes, the first decision regarding the position of sensors may not be suitable for characterising the microclimate close to climate sensitive artworks or should be revised in light of new circumstances. This paper fits into this context by proposing a rational approach for a posteriori deployment of microclimate sensors in museums where long-term temperature and relative humidity observations were available (here, the Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen, Denmark). Different statistical tools such as box-and-whisker plots, principal component …
This article discusses the theoretical contents of the concepts of springboard country and springboard affiliate. This is a fact of relations between…
2014
The appearance of several diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and spread of infections mutagenic virus type can be linked to the quality and lifestyle that we lead today. Indeed, several studies on the factors triggering these so-called "morbid" long-or short-term illnesses are related to stress and quality of food consumed, whether of plant and animal origin. These diseases are becoming a common occurrence, they affect different races and all classes of society. According ethnobotanical research, naturally occurring substances, allowed civilizations to survive deadly diseases. For example, we thus find references to periods of malarial fever in China and one of the symp…
