Mind the gap: Treefalls as drivers of parental trade-offs

Tree-fall gaps are small-scale disturbances whose formation, colonization, and role in forest dynamics are well documented, but whose effects on animal ecology are still greatly overlooked, except for studies comparing species richness of gaps 6+ months old to that in the closed canopy. Other factors associated with the invasion of fresh tree-fall gaps such as animal breeding adaptations have been largely neglected. I studied the immediate (within hours and days) arrival of the poison frog Dendrobates tinctorius in new tree-fall gaps to examine the dynamics of their invasion in relation to tadpole rearing. Abstract In juveniles extreme intraspecies aggression can seem counter-intuitive, as it might endanger their developmental goal of surviving until reproductive stage. Ultimately, aggression can be vital for survival, although the factors (e.g., genetic or environmental) leading to the expression and intensity of this behavior vary across taxa. Attacking (and sometimes killing) related individuals may reduce inclusive fitness; as a solution to this problem, some species exhibit kin discrimination and preferentially attack unrelated individuals. In this brief study we will carefully analyze the uses of arribar and aplegar in mediaeval language from Curial e Güelfa. Our goal is to discover when and up to which extent both verbs, arribar and aplegar, share their meaning during the first half of the 15th century, in order to shed light on the current situation of Valencian. At the same time, we will contrast the datum of this anonymous text with former, later and contemporary works from the datum of Corpus Informatitzat del Català Antic (CICA: 2007).

Legāts mantojuma tiesībās

Autore izstrādātajā bakalaura darbā ir pētījusi legāta institūtu mantojuma tiesībās, analizējusi tā izpratni vēsturiskajā tvērumā un salīdzinājusi to ar mūsdienu tvērumu, tādējādi veicinot izpratni par legāta institūtu mantojuma tiesībās. Pētījuma gaitā tika analizēta Civillikuma Mantojuma tiesību daļa, kas attiecas uz legātiem, gan arī citiem tiesību institūtiem, kas ietekmē legāta tiesisko stāvokli. Pētījuma rezultātā darba autore ir nonākusi pie dažādiem secinājumiem, analizējusi būtiskās problēmas legāta institūtā, kā arī analizējusi autores ieskatā visinteresantāko no iespējamajiem legāta priekšmetiem, proti, vai nekustamais īpašums var būt legāta priekšmets.
