A Stochastic Model for Population and Well-Being Dynamics

2014

This article presents a stochastic dynamic model to study the demographic evolution per sexes and the corresponding well-being of a general human population. The main model variables are population per sexes and well-being. The considered well-being variable is the Gender-Related Development Index (GDI), a United Nations index. The model's objectives are to improve future well-being and to reach a stable population in a country. The application case consists of adapting, validating, and using the model for Spain in the 2000–2006 period. Some instance strategies have been tested in different scenarios for the 2006–2015 period to meet these objectives by calculating the reliability of the res…

Iconografía de urnas cinerarias romanas en los grabados de Carlo Antonini

1991

CARLO ANTONINI, PERTENECIENTE A LA ESCUELA ROMANA, A CABALLO ENTRE LOS SIGLOS XVIII Y XIX, FUE UN DESTACADO ARQUITECTO, DIBUJANTE Y GRABADOR. EN 1821 PUBLICO UN MANUAL DE TRES VOLUMENES EN EL QUE SE PRETENDIA DAR A CONOCER LAS COLECCIONES DE VASOS ANTIGUOS DE LOS MUSEOS VATICANOS Y OTRAS GALERIAS DE ROMA. EN EL PRIMER VOLUMEN SE OCUPO DE LOS VASOS ANTIGUOS DEL MUSEO PIO-CLEMENTINO. DESCRIBE LAS PIEZAS E INCLUYE GRABADOS DE LAS MISMAS. SUS INSCRIPCIONES Y SU DECORACION PERMITEN ANALIZARLAS ICONOGRAFICAMENTE, PUDIENDO CONCLUIR QUE TODOS PRESENTAN, CON VARIANTES, TEMAS PARECIDOS RELACIONADOS CON LA INMORTALIDAD. (A.B.C./ L.A.G.)

Protective role of the complement regulatory protein human CD-55 in cardiac xenograft: a descriptive study and a revision of the literature.

2002

The limited and inadequate availability of organs from human donors has resulted in the utilisation of xenografts as an alternative tool. Nevertheless, hyperacute rejection (HAR) following xenograft determines the loss of the transplanted organ. The “primum movens” is the activation of the complement pathway mediated by the binding of natural xenogenic antibodies to the endothelium of the graft, followed by the lysis of the endothelial cells with subsequent oedema, thrombosis and necrosis of the transplanted organ. In this work we describe morphological and biomolecular observations of isolated human-decay accelerating factor (h-DAF, CD55) transgenic pig hearts, after perfusion for four hou…

Incremental Gaussian Discriminant Analysis based on Graybill and Deal weighted combination of estimators for brain tumour diagnosis

2011

In the last decade, machine learning (ML) techniques have been used for developing classifiers for automatic brain tumour diagnosis. However, the development of these ML models rely on a unique training set and learning stops once this set has been processed. Training these classifiers requires a representative amount of data, but the gathering, preprocess, and validation of samples is expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, for a classical, non-incremental approach to ML, it is necessary to wait long enough to collect all the required data. In contrast, an incremental learning approach may allow us to build an initial classifier with a smaller number of samples and update it incrementally…

From a previous approach about phonetic and morphological features in the Hippocratic treatrises De fistulis and …

E. Rh. 686 ἀλλὰ: una cuestión sintáctica

2012

La adición de en E. Rh. 686, propuesta por Dindorf y adoptada por Diggle, ofrece una interpretación más coherente de este verso no solo en términos sintácticos sino también con respecto a la acción dramática y teatral. The addition of in E. Extraction of thermal characteristics of surrounding geological layers of a geothermal heat exchanger by 3D numerical simulations

2016

Ground thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance are key parameters for the design of closed Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems. The standard method to determine these parameters is the Thermal Response Test (TRT). This test analyses the ground thermal response to a constant heat power injection or extraction by measuring inlet and outlet temperatures of the fluid at the top of the borehole heat exchanger. These data are commonly evaluated by models considering the ground being homogeneous and isotropic. This approach estimates an effective ground thermal conductivity representing an average of the thermal conductivity of the different layers crossed by perforation. In order …

Efficiency improvement of a ground coupled heat pump system from energy management

2011

The installed capacity of an air conditioning system is usually higher than the average cooling or heating demand along the year. So, most of the time, the system is working under its actual capacity. In this contribution, we study the way to improve the efficiency of a ground coupled heat pump air conditioning system by adapting its produced thermal energy to the actual thermal demand. For this purpose, an air conditioning system composed by a ground coupled heat pump and a central fan coil linked to an office located in a cooling dominated area was simulated, and a new management strategy aiming to diminish electrical consumption was developed under the basic constraint that comfort requi…

On a class of generalised Schmidt groups

2015

In this paper families of non-nilpotent subgroups covering the non-nilpotent part of a finite group are considered. An A 5 -free group possessing one of these families is soluble, and soluble groups with this property have Fitting length at most three. A bound on the number of primes dividing the order of the group is also obtained.

On a matrix group constructed from an {R,s+1,k}-potent matrix

2014

Let R is an element of C-nxn be a {k}-involutory matrix (that is, R-k = I-n) for some integer k >= 2, and let s be a nonnegative integer. A matrix A is an element of C-nxn is called an {R,s + 1, k}-potent matrix if A satisfies RA = A(s+1)R. In this paper, a matrix group corresponding to a fixed {R,s + 1, k}-potent matrix is explicitly constructed, and properties of this group are derived and investigated. This group is then reconciled with the classical matrix group G(A) that is associated with a generalized group invertible matrix A.
