La non stationnarité dans les séries saisonnières. Application au tourisme tunisien

1998

The purpose of the paper is to specify the nature of the seasonal behaviors of tourist stay demand in Tunisia by using recent tools of monthly time series analysis. The available series (tourist expenditures, prices, guest nights, reception capacities,...) are analyzed with the classical theory of demand and the theory of supply induced demand. Empirical results show that these series are generated by non stationary processes which seasonality is stochastic and deterministic. The extent of the maximum likelihood method proposed by Lee (1992) for monthly data emphasizes unit roots and cointegration relationships at some seasonal frequencies. Error correction models are derived for endogenous…

Towards Seamless IoT Device-Edge-Cloud Continuum:

2021

In this paper we revisit a taxonomy of client-side IoT software architectures that we presented a few years ago. We note that the emergence of inexpensive AI/ML hardware and new communication technologies are broadening the architectural options for IoT devices even further. These options can have a significant impact on the overall end-to-end architecture and topology of IoT systems, e.g., in determining how much computation can be performed on the edge of the network. We study the implications of the IoT device architecture choices in light of the new observations, as well as make some new predictions about future directions. Additionally, we make a case for isomorphic IoT systems in whic…

Characteristics of the subscription revenue model used in SaaS applications

2012

Turunen, Helinä Characteristics of the subscription revenue model used in SaaS applications Jyväskylä: University of Jyväskylä, 2012, 22 p. Information Systems, Bachelor’s Thesis Supervisor: Ojala, Arto Cloud service and cloud business have increased tremendously in the last few years. Both the technology and business aspect of cloud services have been studied widely, especially the advantages of cloud computing from the cus-tomer perspective. Cloud service pricing and its characteristics have been stud-ied less than the technology and business models, and this thesis concentrates on the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the subscription model used in Software as a Service (S…

Medical Software Needs Calm Compliance

2022

The promise of calm computing, a concept introduced by Mark Weiser more than 20 years ago, has been mostly realized today. For instance, as an end user, you expect to interact during your daily routine with a multitude of sophisticated services and applications without being aware of their technical implementation. All you need is a smartphone and an always-on Internet connection. peerReviewed

Nomenclature for Hydrogeological Instability Risks

2022

The nomenclature for hydrogeological instability risks includes four main risks, which are distinguished according to the risk causes : 1) hydrogeological risk, that is slowly caused by natural factors (e.g. collapse landslides in a calcareous cliff in uninhabited areas and erosion along a marly-calcareous slope) in environments where human activities are minimal, i.e. woods, forests and mountain pastures; 2) hydraulic-pedological farming risk, that implies the occurrence of landslides in every winter and is caused by incorrect crop selection, not suitable for the soil and climate parameters (e.g. on a hilly slope with a clay vertisol type with a landslide having different fronts, when the …

A soil biodiversity survey coupled with the national soil quality monitoring network?

2021

International audience; Despite its importance for human activities, soil biodiversity remains largely unknown and threatened. Aware of the need for large-scale monitoring, we studied the feasibility to add a soil biodiversity survey (RMBS-Biodiversity) to the already existing French soil quality monitoring network (RMQS). We worked with soil biodiversity experts to couple RMBS-Biodiversity with RMQS i.e. to choose soil taxons and functions, the methodologies and the sampling design. According to the experts, the sampling design of RMQS fits with a soil biodiversitysurvey. We propose sampling protocols for i) bacteria and fungi, ii) protists, iii) nematodes, iv) mesofauna (particularly spri…
