Designing a Eustress Toolbox : From entrepreneur experiences to an online service

2018

Stress is typically seen as a negative phenomenon. However, the positive side of stress (i.e., eustress) has the potential to improve well-being, productivity, and innovativeness, thus increasing individuals’ daily resources at work. Focusing on eustress could enhance work engagement by turning some of the negatively perceived stressors into positive challenges. We explored this possibility by interviewing 21 Finnish entrepreneurs from various fields regarding their experiences of eustress. Nine of the interviewed entrepreneurs also recorded a eustress diary. Based on thematic analysis of the interview data, six main themes supporting eustress were identified: (a) Selfreflection toward chan…

Back to Basics: The Relative Importance of Transformational and Fair Leadership for Employee Work Engagement and Exhaustion

2016

This study contributes to the literature on the supervisors’ role in employee well-being by drawing on two separate lines of research: transformational leadership and organizational justice. The purpose of the study was to investigate the unique contributions of transformational and fair leadership (justice behaviours of supervisors) on work engagement and exhaustion among employees within the framework of the Job Demands-Resources model (Bakker and Demerouti, 2007). In determining the unique contributions, we additionally acknowledged the role of work characteristics. A questionnaire study was conducted among Finnish municipal employees in a variety of occupations (N = 333, 87% women). The…

Darba vides riski un strādājošo labklājība SIA “Termo – Eko”. Veselības veicināšanas pasākumi

2015

Maģistra darbs izstrādāts ar mērķi veikt SIA „Termo - Eko” darba vidē esošo risku ekspertīzi un novērtēt uzņēmuma darbinieku labklājību. Darbs sastāv no 4 daļām. Darba pirmajā daļā, balstoties uz literatūras avotiem, raksturoti darba vides risku terorētiskie aspekti un to novērtēšanas pamatprincipi.Otrajā daļā aprakstītas pētījumā izmantotās metodes, norādīti veicamie soļi, lai praktiski īstenotu metožu pielietojumu un novērtētu izvēlētos darba vides risku raksturojošos parametrus. Darba trešajā daļā aprakstīti pētījuma rezultāti, kas apliecina, ka nodarbinātie ir pakļauti vairākiem darba vides riska faktoriem – troksnis, vibrācija un dinamiskā slodze ietekmē lauka darbiniekus, bet piespiedu…

Using English at work : English skills of Finnish Police officers

2010

Englanti on kieli, jota moni suomalainen tarvitsee työelämässään.

Recognizing Video Resolution by Monitoring Memory Metrics in Mobile Clients

2019

Content delivery is one of the most successful applications in mobile networks. Mobile edge servers are significantly contributing to the improvement of this type of applications, by also performing resolution adaptations as a function of the radio link quality observed by the users. In this paper, we face the problem of dynamically tracking the perceived video resolution by mobile clients in a mobile edge environment to guarantee an agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA). To this purpose, we propose a protocol-agnostic approach, based on monitoring some memory metrics of a running video streaming process at the mobile client, for identifying the time-varying resolution of the video content.

Finnish Police Supervisors’ Conceptions of Workplace Learning and Its Sustainability

2023

Workplace learning (WPL) is a complex phenomenon involving the intertwined processes of working and learning. Recent studies have shown the importance of sustainable perspectives in WPL situations. In the literature, sustainable development is still predominantly referred to environmental, economic and social sustainability. In this study, sustainable perspectives denote the widespread use of previous knowledge, the rapid application of new knowledge and the effects of this knowledge on well-being, thus leaning on human sustainability. The purpose of this study is to examine conceptions of WPL among Finnish police supervisors and to reveal whether sustainable learning perspectives manifest.…
