One of the most outstanding figures of music criticism in the Spanish Restoration was José María Esperanza y Sola (1834-1905), active for thirty years, from the late 1860s until the end of the century. During this period, Esperanza collaborated in different periodical publications and, particularly, “La Ilustración Española y Americana”, from whose pages he informed about the most important musical events celebrated in Madrid, judged according to a conservative aesthetic criterion, opposed to any novelty that infringe the traditional music system. The contribution is a brief introduction to the workshop “Ifigenia in Aulide di Euripide. Testo, Interpretazione, Drammaturgia, ieri e oggi”, held in Palermo on April 7, 2016, whose intent is here motivated. The meeting pivoted on the idea that a tragedy as IA, burdened with serious textual problems – as evidenced by the latest editions by James Diggle (OCT) and David Kovacs (Loeb) –, may be a good basis for a methodological reassessment, within which textual criticism may interact with interpretative problems and dramaturgical performances, concerning either the time when theatrical representations were performed and their numerous rewritings. Inbreeding depression in the effects of body mass on energy use

Large organisms have higher metabolic rates than small organisms but, if we compare their relative metabolic rates (i.e. per gram of tissue), this relationship is very often reversed. The pervasiveness of this phenomenon, called metabolic scaling, has attracted several theoretical explanations, and also produced lingering debate over whether metabolic scaling is a physically constrained and universally constant phenomenon or a more variable and evolutionarily malleable trait. To bring novel insights to this debate, we manipulated male Gryllodes sigillatus crickets’ coefficients of inbreeding to determine whether metabolic scaling is sensitive to the manipulation of genetic quality.
