Abstract Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in western countries, and adenocarcinomas (LADs) are the most frequent histological subtype. The aberrant activation of the kinases promotes plethora of tumorigenic processes, mainly through PI3K and MAPK oncogenic pathways leading to oncogene addiction. Repetitive nucleotide sequencing of a dispensable DNA segment in a clonal population of African swine fever virus

Abstract Repetitive nucleotide sequencing of a dispensable genomic segment of a clonal population of African swine fever (ASF) virus has been carried out to estimate the mutant frequency to neutral alleles. Since no mutations have been detected in a total of 54026 nucleotides screened, the maximum mutant frequency is 5.5 × 10 −5 substitutions/nucleotide (95% confidence level). The result renders very unlikely the occurrence of hypermutational events during ASF virus DNA replication, at least within the selected DNA fragment.

The DNA-repair protein O(6)-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (alkyltransferase; MGMT) is a major determinant of resistance of cells to various alkylating cytostatic drugs. Its expression in tissues is highly variable, indicating complex regulatory mechanisms involved. Transfection-mediated expression of wild-type p53 has been shown to negatively regulate basal promoter activity of MGMT in vitro. Neuroblastoma is the second most frequent malignancy in childhood. We investigated whether screening for neuroblastoma at 1 year of age reduces the incidence of metastatic disease or mortality. Screening was offered in 6 of the 16 German states from 1995 to 2000 with the remaining states serving as controls. We studied 2,581,188 children in the screening area born between 1994 and 1999 and 2,117,600 in the control area. We compared mortality from neuroblastoma and the incidence of disseminated disease in the two groups. Ectopic expression of MHC class II surface molecules has been described in the context of cervical cancer, but coexpression with other components of the MHC class II antigen presentation pathway has not been addressed. We have evaluated the MHC class II antigen presentation pathway in malignant squamous epithelium of HPV+ cervical cancer lesions by in situ costaining HLA-DR with CLIP or DMA/DMB.
