Illusions of Friendship? The Soviet Union and Russia in the Finnish Press
2004
Abstract: The image of the Soviet Union and Russia has changed dramatically in the press in Finland after the World War II. This article is based on a frequency analysis in which mentions of certain countries, groups of states and international organizations were coded (like the Soviet Union/Russia, United States, NATO, UN etc.). To make the analysis more revealing and interesting, a distinction was made whether the mention was made in the context of (1) alliance, friendship and cooperation, or in the context of (2) distance, restriction and enemy image, or (3) both in a positive and in a negative context. The time frame was from 1945 till the end of the century, and the newspapers chosen f…

: The medical FASP genre as a teaching tool: authentic or doctored material?
2011
Abstract: This article falls within the scope of an action-based research project conducted at the Dijon School of Medicine. It focuses on the medical FASP genre as a potential pedagogical tool From December 2009 to April 2010, I asked 10 experienced health care professionals from various fields of medical practice, who had obtained an inter-university diploma in medical English, to fill in a questionnaire. The participants, who did not know the titles of the novels or the names of the novelists, were required to comment on six medically-based extracts taken from thrillers during continuing education classes. The aim of the questionnaire was to check the relevance of the specialized vocabul…
Material flow analysis in dissimilar friction stir welding of AA2024 and Ti6Al4V butt joints
2016
The complex material flow occurring during the weld of dissimilar AA2024 to Ti6Al4V butt and lap joints was highlighted through a dedicated numerical model able to take into account the effects of the different materials as well as the phase transformation of the used titanium alloy.
A novel linear friction welding based approach for sheet-bulk joining
2019
In the last decades, the development of new, flexible manufacturing processes caused the increase of the demands for highly customized complex functional parts in many industrial fields. The peculiar design of these components often overcome conventional sheet metal and bulk metal forming processes capabilities. In order to face this issue, new hybrid techniques, capable of exploit key advantages of different processes, have to be developed. In this paper, a novel approach based on the Linear Friction Welding process is proposed to obtain sheet-bulk joints. The feasibility of the technique on high specific strength alloys is investigated through an experimental campaign. In the last decades,…
Modeling of the plastic characteristics of AA6082 for the friction stir welding process
2015
Focus of this paper is to model the plastic forming behavior of AA6082, in order to develop the numerical FE analysis of the friction stir welding processes and the simulation of subsequent forming processes. During the friction stir welding process, the temperatures reached can range up to 500 °C and have a fundamental role for the correct performance of the process, so the material data has to show a temperature dependency. Because of the tool rotation a strain rate sensitivity of the material has to be respected as well. In this context, the general material characteristics of AA6082 were first identified for different stress states. For the uniaxial state the standard PuD-Al used in the…
Ankk1 Loss of Function Disrupts Dopaminergic Pathways in Zebrafish
2022
Ankyrin repeat and kinase domain containing 1 (ANKK1) is a member of the receptor-interacting protein serine/threonine kinase family, known to be involved in cell proliferation, differentiation and activation of transcription factors. Genetic variation within the ANKK1 locus is suggested to play a role in vulnerability to addictions. However, ANKK1 mechanism of action is still poorly understood. It has been suggested that ANKK1 may affect the development and/or functioning of dopaminergic pathways. To test this hypothesis, we generated a CRISPR-Cas9 loss of function ankk1 zebrafish line causing a 27 bp insertion that disrupts the ankk1 sequence introducing an early stop codon. We found that…

Detoxification of Copper and Chromium via Dark Hydrogen Fermentation of Potato Waste by Clostridium butyricum Strain 92
2022
The accumulation of various types of waste containing both organic and inorganic metal-containing compounds is extremely hazardous for living organisms. The possibility of polymer degradation, biohydrogen synthesis, and metal detoxification via the dark fermentation of model potato waste was investigated. For this purpose, the strict anaerobic strain was isolated and identified as Clostridium butyricum. The high efficiency of dark hydrogen fermentation of potatoes with yield of hydrogen in 85.8 ± 15.3 L kg−1 VSpotato was observed. The copperand chromium salts solutions were added to the culture fluid to obtain the concentrations of 50, 100, and 200 mg L−1 Cu(II) and Cr(VI) in the active pha…
The interplay of intrinsic need satisfaction and Facebook specific motives in explaining addictive behavior on Facebook
2014
We conducted an online survey with 581 SNS users. We developed a scale measuring SNS addiction.SNS specific motives mediate the effect of intrinsic needs on SNS addiction.People try to compensate thwarted intrinsic needs with gratifications from SNS use.Gratifications sought from SNS use can cause addictive SNS usage patterns. The present paper aims at exploring the new phenomenon of social network site (SNS) addiction and at identifying predictors of problematic SNS use. For this purpose, a scale measuring addictive behavior specifically with regard to SNS use was developed. The effects of intrinsic need satisfaction in the offline context and of SNS-specific motives on SNS addiction were t…
