Finns and the Indigenous People in the Great Lakes Region: Playing with Settler Myths in Late 20th- and Early 21st-Century Finnish American Fiction

This chapter explores the Finnish settler migration mythology through a selection of Finnish–American literature produced in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The idea is to shed light on the ways in which these texts create, spread, and perpetuate the settler myths. A close reading of literary texts can offer the opportunity to refocus, reframe, and reconceptualize Finnish experiences in North America. The chapter demonstrates that these texts can be approached as reinforcing the Finnish–Indigenous myth. From being ignored to engaging in dialogue : Young boys' narratives of children's participation in child–parent conflicts

This paper examines children's opportunities to participate in everyday child–parent conflicts as revealed in young boys' fictional narratives. The data were collected from 19 boys aged 3–6 years using the Story Magician's Play Time method. Narrative analysis yielded four story types: ignored participation stories, parent-directed participation stories, child-directed participation stories and dialogical participation stories. The study illustrates that when considering children's participation in child–parent conflicts, differences between children in their opportunities to participate in resolving conflicts should be taken into account. Pētījuma Narratīva elementi videospēlēs galvenais mērķis ir apskatīt rīkus, ko izmanto videospēles naratīva veidošanai. Darbā aplūko tas teorijas par datorspēļu pētniecību un naratoloģiju, kā arī apskatīti naratīva elementi videospēlē Bloodborne. Teorētiskie pētījumi parāda, ka spēļu naratīvu var pētīt no naratoloģijas, ludoloģijas un semiotikas viedokļa. Izvelētās spēles pārbaude apstiprināja, ka stāstījums nav videospēlēm piemītošs līdzeklis, tā uzbūve notiek pēc spēlētāja mijiedarbības ar spēles elementiem, kas atrodas spēles laukumā, kas savukārt sniedz spēlētājam dažādas iespējas kā var rekonstruēt spēles vēstījumu.

The subject of the article - developed through the literary and cultural contexts of contemporary literature - concentrates mainly on different forms of the presence of tradition (targeting the Romantic one as key and the Old Polish as the subsequent one). A look at the styles and tones of the literature-"thriving" languages of these traditions allows us to see these traditions in a different critical light (national symbols/Polish signs/patters/transformations).
