The social significance of the Facebook Like button

In this paper we study social aspects of using the Like button for purposes of impression management, identity construction, and maintenance of social ties online. On the theoretical level our investigation combines Goffman’s notion of face-work with concepts of social network analysis, shedding light on what we dub ‘nano-level’ interaction and sociality on social networking sites. Tämän tutkimuksen aiheena on tutkia johtajaidentiteetin rakentumista diskursiivisesta näkökulmasta. Sosiolingvistisen tutkimussuuntauksen piirissä identiteetin rakentuminen nähdään kielellisenä prosessina: identiteetti rakentuu vuorovaikutuksessa diskursiivisten prosessien kautta. Tätä taustaa vasten tavoitteena on selvittää, kuinka Applen toimitusjohtaja Tim Cookin johtajaidentiteetti rakentuu haastattelutilanteessa erilaisten kielellisten keinojen kautta. Pētījumā aplūkotas laukiem, to iedzīvotājiem un zemniecībai piedēvētās nozīmes, rezultātus skatot nacionālās identitātes un sociālās atmiņas kontekstā. Teorētiskajā daļā izskaidrota lauku un nācijas saikne, nacionālās identitātes, sociālās atmiņas jēdzieni un komunikācijas loma nācijas re-iztēlošanas procesā. This paper advances stakeholder salience theory from the viewpoint of small businesses. It is argued that the stakeholder salience process for small businesses is influenced by their local embeddedness, captured by the idea of social proximity, and characterised by multiple relationships that the owner-manager and stakeholders share beyond the business context. It is further stated that the ethics of care is a valuable ethical lens through which to understand social proximity in small businesses. The paper aims to offer an account of some representative opinions of ancient Greeks about the role of the space, conceived in its geographical/environmental value, in which a certain population lives, as well as of the language spoken by a population, in order to build historically the concept of Greek nation (to Hellenikón). The different positions expressed on these matters by Herodotus, Thucydides, Strabon and Pausanias are discussed, and the examination mostly concernes the ethnic and historical-linguistic aspects of the representation of the Dorians and Ionians.
