Abstract Background Ziziphus spina-christi (L.) Desf. (Christ's Thorn Jujube) is a wild tree today found in Jordan, Israel, Egypt, and some parts of Africa, which was already in use as a medicinal plant in Ancient Egypt. In ancient Egyptian prescriptions, it was used in remedies against swellings, pain, and heat, and thus should have anti-inflammatory effects. Nowadays, Z. spina-christi, is used in Egypt (by Bedouins, and Nubians), the Arabian Peninsula, Jordan, Iraq, and Morocco against a wide range of illnesses, most of them associated with inflammation. Abstract Background In 2013, Mozambique implemented task-shifting (TS) from clinical officers to maternal and child nurses to improve care for HIV positive children < 5 years old. A retrospective, pre-post intervention study was designed to evaluate effectiveness of a new pathway of care in a sample of Beira District Local Health Facilities (LHFs), the primary, local, community healthcare services. Methods The study was conducted by accessing registries of At Risk Children Clinics (ARCCs) and HIV Health Services. AbstractThe purpose of this article is to provide the reader with a comprehensive yet detailed account of the current giftedness and gifted education situation in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. It is concerned with four main research questions: (1) How is ‘giftedness’ defined in German-speaking countries? (2) How are gifted children identified? (3) What gifted education programs are there? (4) What are the empirical findings on these programs?The article is based on relevant journal articles, books, and webpages. The review of each of the topics mentioned above is accompanied by some critical comments.

Between the fifteenth and the eighteenth centuries, collections of «illustrious women» were a very widely spread genre all over Europe. Humanistic and courtly in their origins, they were linked to the discourse of women´s «excellence» and they transmitted the values of privilege and aristocratic ethics. Abstract The main objective of the article is to illustrate how language ideologies and language management at the macro-level (state language policy), micro-level (in families) and meso-level (local communities) influence language change and the conceptualization of multilingualism of immigrants from Upper Silesia residing in Germany. Language biographies of persons from Silesia demonstrate the significant influence of historical and political events on sociolinguistic processes. Original fragments of biographical interviews of the people surveyed constitute an integral part of the text.

Automatic Identification System (AIS) has been employed for increasing the safety at the sea. Nowadays general information about the marine traffic can be tracked in operational mode using www.marinetraffic.com web portal. Additional information can be purchased for commercial and research purposes. Our study highlights a possibility to study the drift using an additional information available at www.marinetraffic.com - selected data on vessel position during its status “not under command”, which corresponds to the drifting vessels. ABSTRACTThe implementation of Motorways of the Sea (MoS) within the framework of European Union aid programs experiences a period of relative stagnation. This article analyzes the suitability of current short-term nonrepayable subsidy policy and develops a decision support system (DSS) that allows a medium- and long-term feasibility analysis of MoS proposals.
