Las infraestructuras viarias de Saguntum en época imperial: propaganda, prestigio social y poder municipal

2015

During the government of Augustus the city of Sagunto was transformed in a place symbol of modernity. It is no coincidence that the necessary developing infrastructures were consolidated around it for an optimal development: higher quality viae or better port platforms. Different type of streets emerged following an order of importance depending many times on the wealth of their users. Towards the exit of the city burial monuments were placed honoring relevant citizens. As many other major towns of Hispania, Saguntum is not an exception of great transformations.

Light project e strumenti digitali: per una fruizione narrativa dei beni culturali

2016

Lighting design, exhibition design and communication design play together a very important and significant role during the processes related to conservation, requalification, restoration, promotion and fruition of cultural heritage. Through the selection of some projects of light design, in association with the use of new technologies and digital tools, the article describes new design processes for the fruition and promotion of cultural heritage. Expanding the concepts of conservation, fruition and promotion of cultural heritage, these projects encourage a very deep relation between the cultural heritage and the visitor, who moves in a “cognitive and emotional space increased” by the combi…

Energy savings through integration of the illumination natural and artificial, using a system of automatic dimming:Case study

2013

The reduction of electrical energy consumption in buildings is a subject of great interest in the international scientific community. In buildings with a lot of available natural light, designed with large glazed surfaces, the artificial lighting system is often oversized and cannot be divided into segments to meet lighting demands during daylight hours. This article presents an experimental study, conducted in a university lecture hall that has a glazed surface covering the whole wall at one end, which provides a level of internal illumination that is only sufficient for the area next to the window itself, even when the outside lighting conditions are very bright. It is therefore necessary…

An Henstock-Kurzweil type integral on a meausure metric space

2014

We consider an Henstock-Kurzweil type integral defined on a complete measure metric space $X=(X, d)$ endowed with a Radon measure $\mu$ and with a family $\F$ of ``intervals" that satisfies, besides usual conditions, the Vitali covering theorem. In particular, for such integral, we obtain extensions of the descriptive characterization of the classical Henstock-Kurzweil integral on the real line, in terms of $ACG_*$ functions and in terms of variational measures. Moreover we show that, besides the usual Henstock-Kurzweil integral on the real line, such integral includes also the dyadic Henstock-Kurzweil integral, the $GP$-integral and the $s$-HK integral. For this last integral we prove a be…

Propagation of spatiotemporal solitons in dissipative media

2010

This thesis presents a semi-analytical approach for the search of (3+1)D spatio-temporal soliton solutions of the complex cubic-quintic Ginzburg-Landau equation (GL3D).We use a semi-analytical method called collective coordinate approach, to obtain an approximate profile of the unknown pulse field. This ansatz function is chosen to be a function of a finite number of parameters describing the light pulse.By applying this collective corrdinate procedure to the GL3D equation, we obtain a system of variational equations which give the evolution of the light bullet parameters as a function of the propagation distance. We show that the collective coordinate approach is uncomparably faster than t…

Sanctuaire de source, sanctuaire des eaux ou simple sanctuaire en milieu humide ? Découverte d’un complexe cultuel antique à Magny-Cours (Nièvre)

2013

In advance of the future extension of the “technopole” and the construction of a service station in the district of Magny-Cours, the undertaking of two evaluations covering 15 hectares and 4 hectares, respectively, has revealed dense occupation of the site from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. The most important remains are associated with the Roman period and belong to a complex endowed with public buildings including several temples in an organised arrangement. This paper, preliminary to a larger study that will report on the whole of the site, is concerned specifically with the results obtained in a waterlogged area comprised within a zone that was excluded from the rescue excava…

The Affordances of Reading/Writing on Paper and Digitally in Finland

2014

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of digital technologies on reading and writing in Finland. The perceived affordances of reading and writing on paper and digitally are compared by analysing written essays collected from 25 communication students in 2013. Research design is replicated from a study of Fortunati and Vincent that concerns Italian students. Results show that Finnish students perceive more positive than negative affordances regarding reading on paper, while reading on screen attracts fewer virtues. In this respect, results are in line with the Italian study. Unlike in Italy, students in Finland value writing on a keyboard especially because it enables editing th…

Protein dynamics: conformational disorder, vibrational coupling and anharmonicity in deoxy-hemoglobin and myoglobin.

1993

In this work we study the temperature dependence of the Soret band lineshape of deoxymyoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin, in the range 300-20 K. To fit the measured spectra we use an approach originally proposed by Champion and coworkers (Srajer et al. 1986; Srajer and Champion 1991). The band profile is modelled as a Voigt function that accounts for the coupling with low frequency vibrational modes, whereas the coupling with high frequency modes is responsible for the vibronic structure of the spectra. Moreover, owing to the position of the iron atom out of the mean heme plane, inhomogeneous broadening brings about a non-Gaussian distribution of 0-0 electronic transition frequencies. The reporte…

Dynamic properties of some β-chain mutant hemoglobins

1995

The thermal behavior of the Soret band relative to the carbonmonoxy derivatives of some beta-chain mutant hemoglobins is studied in the temperature range 300-10 K and compared to that of wild-type carbonmonoxy hemoglobin. The band profile at various temperatures is modeled as a Voigt function that accounts for homogeneous broadening and for the coupling with high- and low-frequency vibrational modes, while inhomogeneous broadening is taken into account with a gaussian distribution of purely electronic transition frequencies. The various contributions to the over-all bandwidth are singled out with this analysis and their temperature dependence, in turn, gives information on structural and dy…
