Państwo Islamskie w perspektywie czasopisma "London Review of Books" (wybrane zagadnienia)

Celem artykułu jest analiza funkcjonowania Państwa Islamskiego w ujęciu prestiżowego angielskiego dwutygodnika „London Review of Books”. Tekst składa się z czterech części. Najpierw omawia się okoliczności narastania zjawiska sunnickiego dżihadyzmu w Iraku po kierowanej przez Stany Zjednoczone inwazji w 2003 r. Następnie zwraca się uwagę na relacje reżimu partii Baas w Syrii z sunnickimi ekstremistami. W kolejnej części zaś na kwestię użycia broni chemicznej w Syrii w 2013 r. W ostatnim rozdziale opisano dwuznaczną rolę Turcji w konfliktach w Iraku i Syrii. W podsumowaniu zawarto wnioski z rozważań.

Purpose This paper aims to revolve around two problems which, though imagined as different, can be addressed altogether. On one hand, the advance of terrorism as a major threat to the tourism industry, while – on the other – we discuss the ontological nature of tourism as a rite of passage, which is vital to keep the political legitimacy of officialdom. At the time, paradoxically, social scientists shrug off tourism as a naïve commercial activity, while the main tourist destinations are being attacked by jihadism. The synthetic method for preparing N-(3-hydroxypropyl) 3 alpha,12 alpha-dihydroxy-5 beta-cholan-24-amide can lead to formation of at least three different crystal forms - an anhydrous compound and two monohydrates. The structural and thermal properties of these forms have been characterized by 13C-CP/MAS-NMR and IR spectroscopy, thermo- gravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry and by powder and single crystal x-ray crystallography. Differentiation of Murine C2C12 Myoblasts Strongly Reduces the Effects of Myostatin on Intracellular Signaling

Alongside in vivo models, a simpler and more mechanistic approach is required to study the effects of myostatin on skeletal muscle because myostatin is an important negative regulator of muscle size. In this study, myostatin was administered to murine (C2C12) and human (CHQ) myoblasts and myotubes. Canonical and noncanonical signaling downstream to myostatin, related ligands, and their receptor were analyzed. The effects of tumorkines were analyzed after coculture of C2C12 and colon cancer-C26 cells. Energy cost of individual lower leg muscles in walking : comparison between young and elderly men at different walking speeds

The cost of transport (COT) in elderly subjects is increased in comparison to young adults, independently of the walking speed. The changes in the neuromuscular activity of the lower extremity muscles could explain this phenomenon. The objective of this thesis was to qualitatively compare the muscle activity pattern of the lower extremities between healthy young and elderly subjects, over a range of walking speeds in order to infer the contributions of individual muscles to changes in COT in both age groups. 26 participants were recruited (13 young aged 18-30; 13 old aged 70-80). Background Most data on the architecture of the human soleus muscle have been obtained from cadaveric dissection or two-dimensional ultrasound imaging. We present the first comprehensive, quantitative study on the three-dimensional anatomy of the human soleus muscle in vivo using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) techniques. It is caused by a mutation in the gene coding protein called dystrophin leading to premature death and significantly impairing the quality of life of DMD patients. Oxida-tive stress is a contributing factor in the pathology of DMD.
