Unsupervised clustering method for pattern recognition in IIF images

Autoimmune diseases are a family of more than 80 chronic, and often disabling, illnesses that develop when underlying defects in the immune system lead the body to attack its own organs, tissues, and cells. Diagnosis of autoimmune pathologies is based on research and identification of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) through indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) method and is performed by analyzing patterns and fluorescence intensity. We propose here a method to automatically classify the centromere pattern based on the grouping of centromeres on the cells through a clustering K-means algorithm. Nitrate leaching in soil: Tracing the NO3− sources with the help of stable N and O isotopes

Abstract Legumes increase the plant-available N pool in soil, but might also increase NO3− leaching to groundwater. To minimize NO3− leaching, N-release processes and the contribution of legumes to NO3− concentrations in soil must be known. Our objectives were (1) to quantify NO3−-N export to >0.3 m soil depth from three legume monocultures (Medicago x varia Martyn, Onobrychis viciifolia Scop., Lathyrus pratensis L.) and from three bare ground plots. Plants of the Ambrosia genus are invasive and cause many ecological problems, including the oppression of the growth of agricultural crops and native plants, land depletion, and the production of strong allergens. L’ambroisie à feuilles d’armoise (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.) est une espèce annuelle envahissante introduite en France à la fin du XIXe siècle. Plante rudérale, tolérante à de nombreux stress, l’ambroisie se développe essentiellement dans les habitats perturbés. Les principaux milieux occupés sont les parcelles agricoles, les bords de route et les zones perturbées par les activités anthropiques (jachères industrielles, zone de dépôt de matériaux …). This paper investigated the intestinal distribution and fecundity of 2 species ofDiplostomumparasites,D. spathaceumandD. pseudospathaceum, in 2 species of definitive hosts, herring gull (Larus argentatus) and common gull (L. canus), using both empirical field data and experimental infections.
