Probing the Effects of Strong Electromagnetic Fields with Charge-Dependent Directed Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC

The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow ($v_{1}$) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and $\rm D^{0}$ mesons for the transverse momentum intervals $p_{\rm T}>0.2$ GeV/$c$ and $3<p_{\rm T}<$ 6 GeV/$c$ in the 5-40% and 10-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron $v_{1}$ has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity $\eta$, ${\rm d}\Delta{v_1}/{\rm d}\eta=$[1.68 $\pm$ 0.49 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.41 (syst.)] $\times 10^{-4}$. Hydrography and food distribution during a tidal cycle above a cold-water coral mound

Cold-water corals (CWCs) are important ecosystem engineers in the deep sea that provide habitat for numerous species and can form large coral mounds. These mounds influence surrounding currents and induce distinct hy- drodynamic features, such as internal waves and episodic downwelling events that accelerate transport of organic matter towards the mounds, supplying the corals with food. To date, research on organic matter distribution at coral mounds has focussed either on seasonal timescales or has provided single point snapshots. Identification of isomeric states in the N=73 neutron-deficient nuclei 132Pr and 130La

Decays from isomeric states in the neutron-deficient N=73 nuclei 132Pr and 130La have been observed for the first time. Half-lives of 486(70) ns and 2.46(4) μs were measured for two isomeric states in 132Pr. The decay from the 486ns (8 -) isomer has been interpreted as a hindered E1 transition from the bandhead state of the excited πh 11/2νg 7/2 configuration. The decay from the 2.5 μs (8 +) isomer is consistent with the Weisskopf estimate for a low-energy E2 transition. An analogous 0.74(3) μs decay from an (8 +) isomer in the neighboring isotone 130La has also been observed which similarly can be explained if the transition has E2 character. Coulomb excitation of 222Rn

International audience; The nature of quadrupole and octupole collectivity in $^{222}$Rn was investigated by determining the electric-quadrupole (E2) and octupole (E3) matrix elements using subbarrier, multistep Coulomb excitation. The radioactive $^{222}$Rn beam, accelerated to 4.23 MeV/u, was provided by the HIE-ISOLDE facility at CERN. Data were collected in the Miniball $\gamma$ -ray spectrometer following the bombardment of two targets, $^{120}$Sn and $^{60}$Ni. Transition E2 matrix elements within the ground-state and octupole bands were measured up to 10 ¯h and the results were consistent with a constant intrinsic electric-quadrupole moment, 518(11) $e$ fm$^2$ . Vuoden 2020 alusta kieltenopiskelu on aloitettu Suomessa vuosiluokalla 1. Opetussuunnitelman perusteissa korostetaan, että opetuksen tulee olla ikätasolle sopivaa ja herättää myönteinen asenne kielenoppimiseen sekä vahvistaa oppilaan pystyvyyttä. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan suomen- ja ruotsinkielisten koulujen oppilaiden asennoitumista ja osaamiskäsityksiä. Tutkimuksen kohteen on englannin kielen (suomenkieliset koulut, n=106) ja suomi toisena kotimaisena kielenä -oppiaineen (ruotsinkieliset koulut, n=86) opiskelu. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää kuinka hyvin Jyväskylän yliopiston tietotekniikan laitoksen opiskelijoiden taidot vastaavat toimialan tarpeita. Tietoa opiskelijoiden osaamisesta saatiin heille tehdystä kyselystä sekä tietotekniikan kandidaatin tutkinnon osaamistavoitteista. Tietoa yritysten tarpeista kerättiin alan työpaikkailmoituksista sekä Keski-Suomen alueen yrityksille tarjottujen PROFIT-koulutusten aiheista. Saatuja tietoja vertaamalla saatiin selville, että opiskelijoiden taidot vastaavat hyvin toimialan tarpeita sekä kansallisesti, että Keski-Suomessa.

Spectrotemporally complex sounds carry important information for acoustic communication. Among the important features of these sounds is the temporal duration. An event‐related potential called mismatch negativity indexes auditory change detection in humans. An analogous response (mismatch response) has been found to duration changes in speech sounds in rats but not yet in mice. We addressed whether mice show this response, and, if elicited, whether this response is functionally analogous to mismatch negativity or whether adaptation‐based models suffice to explain them. Som del av eksamen i emnet MEF4200 Energimaterialer ved Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) høsten 2004 var oppgaven å skrive en populærvitenskapelig artikkel for avgangselever i videregående skole. Artikkelen presenteres her og omhandler lavtemperatur brenselceller. De brenselcelletypene som beskrives er alkaliske brenselceller, PEM-brenselceller og metanolbrenselceller, alle med en driftstemperatur på normalt under 100 °C, og deres bruksområder.
