Ethical Requirements Stack : A framework for implementing ethical requirements of AI in software engineering practices
2023
Utilizing User Stories to Bring AI Ethics into Practice in Software Engineering
2022
AI ethics is a research area characterized by a prominent gap between research and practice. With most studies in the area being conceptual in nature or focused on technical ML (Machine Learning) solutions, the link between AI (Artificial Intelligence) ethics and SE (Software Engineering) practice remains thin. Establishing this link, we argue, is vital going forward. While conceptual discussion is required to define AI ethics, much progress has already been made in this regard. Similarly, though technical ML solutions are also required for practical implementation, ML systems are ultimately still software, and thus SE cannot be forgotten. In this paper, we propose one way of bringing AI et…
The Role of Explainable AI in the Research Field of AI Ethics
2023
Ethics of Artiicial Intelligence (AI) is a growing research ield that has emerged in response to the challenges related to AI. Transparency poses a key challenge for implementing AI ethics in practice. One solution to transparency issues is AI systems that can explain their decisions. Explainable AI (XAI) refers to AI systems that are interpretable or understandable to humans. The research ields of AI ethics and XAI lack a common framework and conceptualization. There is no clarity of the ield’s depth and versatility. A systematic approach to understanding the corpus is needed. A systematic review ofers an opportunity to detect research gaps and focus points. This paper presents the results…
Human-centricity in AI governance : A systemic approach
2023
Human-centricity is considered a central aspect in the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI). Various strategies and guidelines highlight the concept as a key goal. However, we argue that current uses of Human-Centered AI (HCAI) in policy documents and AI strategies risk downplaying promises of creating desirable, emancipatory technology that promotes human wellbeing and the common good. Firstly, HCAI, as it appears in policy discourses, is the result of aiming to adapt the concept of human-centered design (HCD) to the public governance context of AI but without proper reflection on how it should be reformed to suit the new task environment. Second, the concept is mainl…
Kulttuuri ja aids-kriisi : vastikkeellinen seksi tansanialaisessa slummissa
2018
Artikkelissa tarkastellaan etnologian keinoin miksi Tansanian nuoriso harjoittaa korkean hivtartuntariskin omaavia seksuaalisia käytänteitä. Tutkimus perustuu Tansanian suurimmassa kaupungissa Dar es Salaamissa tehtyihin 128 teemahaastatteluun. Analyysin lähtökohtana on ajatus siitä, että kulttuuristen odotusten ja asenteiden huolellinen analyysi antaa tutkijoille mahdollisuuden löytää uusia ratkaisuja hiv-tartuntariskin vähentämiseksi köyhillä kaupunkialueilla Saharan eteläpuolisessa Afrikassa. peerReviewed
Direct observation of the dead-cone effect in quantum chromodynamics.
2022
In particle collider experiments, elementary particle interactions with large momentum transfer produce quarks and gluons (known as partons) whose evolution is governed by the strong force, as described by the theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD)1. These partons subsequently emit further partons in a process that can be described as a parton shower2, which culminates in the formation of detectable hadrons. Studying the pattern of the parton shower is one of the key experimental tools for testing QCD. This pattern is expected to depend on the mass of the initiating parton, through a phenomenon known as the dead-cone effect, which predicts a suppression of the gluon spectrum emitted by a he…
D-meson production according to the parton model and their detection in ALICE
2007
Modern understanding in particle physics is constructed over lay- ers and layers of work. Most of the work was done during last century, starting from the quantum mechanics. Modern theoretical basis is the parton model, which is constructed from three independent parts: distribution of momentum to partons inside hadron, partonic cross-sections from QCD and from fragmentation of parton to hadrons. All of these parts are discussed in this work. Future experiments are aiming for higher energies and/or greater number of intresting events than what previous experiments were capable to gain. Main example of this is LHC and ALICE-experiment on it in CERN. While simulations have benefited greatly f…
Intrinsic transverse momentum distribution of jet constituents in p-Pb collisions at ALICE
2014
The integral part of the URHIC program is also to study the pp and p–A collision in order to understand the “reference” (unmodified) particle production (in pp) and the “cold” nuclear phenomena in p–A. The main focus of this thesis is to study the parton shower evolution in p–Pb collisions in ALICE by analyzing jet fragmentation transverse momentum (j_{T} ). The analysis of j_{T} in p–Pb collisions, for which ALICE has a high quality data set, lays bases for later extension to pp and Pb–Pb data in order to study the induced gluon radiation. Additionally, the yields of \pi^0 meson were studied in Pb–Pb sqrt(s_{NN}) = 2.76 GeV collision. The \pi^0 analysis was followed for continuity of work …
Musically induced ASMR : an amalgamated experience
2015
Musically induced ASMR is an Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response triggered by music. The term ASMR is best known on the internet by communities who report experiencing this phenomenon. It is most simply understood as an experience like musical chills, however can be triggered by nearly any form of stimuli. The current study employed grounded theory, a meticulous and established qualitative research method for developing theory that serves to explain salient characteristics of a particular phenomenon; to theorize the nature and significance of musically induced ASMR and ASMR in general. Based on the data collected, the study confirmed the existence of musically induced ASMR and demonstrates…
Seinäjoen Aalto-keskuksen paikan henkeä etsimässä : "Alvarin askelissa" -teemalukuvuoden suunnitteluprosessin kuvaus
2015
Tutkimukseni kuvaa suunnitteluprosessia, jonka tuloksena syntyi luonnostelma ”Alvarin askelissa” teemalukuvuonna (2015–2016) käytettävistä arkkitehtuurikasvatuksen menetelmistä. Teemalukuvuosi johdattaa Seinäjoen kaupungin perusopetuksen 2., 5., 7. ja 8. luokkien oppilaita havainnoimaan ja tiedostamaan arkkitehtuurin ja rakennetun ympäristön merkitystä heidän omassa ympäristössään. Teemalukuvuoden keskiössä on Seinäjoen Alvar Aallon suunnittelema, kuusi rakennusta ja kansalaistorin käsittävä, arkkitehtoninen kokonaisuus, jota kutsutaan Aalto-keskukseksi. Tavoitteena on, että oppilaat oppivat tiedostamaan, että heidän kotikaupungissaan on maailmanlaajuisesti tunnetun arkkitehdin ainutlaatuin…
