Leonīda Keirāna vēstule Ernestam Foldātam
1998
Latviešu dabaszinātnieka Leonīda Keirāna vēstule latviešu orhideju pētniekam Ernestam Foldātam, kurā viņš raksta par to, ka Daugavpils Pedagoģiskās universitātes Dabaszinātņu un matemātikas fakultātes Bioloģijas un mācīšanas metodikas katedrā 1998. gada 12. jūnijā Olga Dubrovska aizstāvēja un ieguva bakalaura grādu pedagoģijas nozarē bioloģijas mācīšanas metodikas apakšnozarē ar ļoti augstu vērtējumu par tematu "Prof. Ernesto Foldāts - latvietis, izcils Dienvidamerikas tropu floras pētnieks". Vēstulē pieminēti izmantotie informācijas avoti, cits absolvents Andrejs Balabkins, kura darbā izmantotas Ernesta Foldāta lekcijas, neliela informācija par pašu Leonīdu Keirānu. Chemical Composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils from two species of Thimus growing wild in southern Italy
2009
The volatile constituents of the aerial parts of two samples of Thymus longicaulis C. Presl, collected in Campania and in Sicily, and two samples of Thymus pulegioides L. from the same regions, were extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed. Considering the four oils together, seventy-eight different compounds were identified: 57 for Thymus longicaulis from Sicily (91.1% of the total oil), 40 for Thymus longicaulis from Campania (91.5% of the oil), 39 for Thymus pulegioides from Sicily (92.5% of the oil) and 29 for Thymus pulegioides from Campania (90.1% of the oil). The composition of the oils is different, although the most abundant components are identical in T. pulegioides. The essent…
Wilson’s Disease: Facing the Challenge of Diagnosing a Rare Disease
2021
Wilson disease (WD) is a rare disorder caused by mutations in ATP7B, which leads to the defective biliary excretion of copper. The subsequent gradual accumulation of copper in different organs produces an extremely variable clinical picture, which comprises hepatic, neurological psychiatric, ophthalmological, and other disturbances. WD has a specific treatment, so that early diagnosis is crucial to avoid disease progression and its devastating consequences. The clinical diagnosis is based on the Leipzig score, which considers clinical, histological, biochemical, and genetic data. However, even patients with an initial WD diagnosis based on a high Leipzig score may harbor other conditions th…
Comparative Analysis of Machine Learning Methods to Predict Growth of F. sporotrichioides and Production of T-2 and HT-2 Toxins in Treatments with Et…
2021
The efficacy of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer films (EVOH) incorporating the essential oil components cinnamaldehyde (CINHO), citral (CIT), isoeugenol (IEG), or linalool (LIN) to control growth rate (GR) and production of T-2 and HT-2 toxins by Fusarium sporotrichioides cultured on oat grains under different temperature (28, 20, and 15 °C) and water activity (aw) (0.99 and 0.96) regimes was assayed. GR in controls/treatments usually increased with increasing temperature, regardless of aw, but no significant differences concerning aw were found. Toxin production decreased with increasing temperature. The effectiveness of films to control fungal GR and toxin production was as follows: EVOH…
Īso ķēžu taukskābju pētījumi bioloģiskajos šķīdumos, izmantojot gāzu hromatogrāfijas metodi
2021
Īso ķēžu taukskābju pētījumi bioloģiskos šķīdumos, izmantojot gāzu hromatogrāfijas metodi. Kapura V., Dr. chem., asoc. prof. Ida Jākobsone, Dr. chem., asoc. prof. Pēteris Mekšs. Maģistra darbs, 52 lappuses, 30 attēli, 10 tabulas, 39 literatūras avoti, 2 pielikumi. Latviešu valodā. Pielāgojot literatūrā aprakstītas metodes, darbā izpētīti gāzu hromatogrāfiskās analīzes apstākļi, lai identificētu īso ķēžu taukskābes bioloģiskos paraugos. Eksperimentālajā daļā noteikta etiķskābes, propionskābes un butānskābes koncentrācija fermentācijas barotnēs ar gāzu hromatogrāfiju, detektēšanai izmantojot liesmas jonizācijas detektoru.
Abundance of narG , nirS , nirK , and nosZ Genes of Denitrifying Bacteria during Primary Successions of a Glacier Foreland
2006
ABSTRACT Quantitative PCR of denitrification genes encoding the nitrate, nitrite, and nitrous oxide reductases was used to study denitrifiers across a glacier foreland. Environmental samples collected at different distances from a receding glacier contained amounts of 16S rRNA target molecules ranging from 4.9 × 10 5 to 8.9 × 10 5 copies per nanogram of DNA but smaller amounts of narG , nirK , and nosZ target molecules. Thus, numbers of narG , nirK , nirS , and nosZ copies per nanogram of DNA ranged from 2.1 × 10 3 to 2.6 × 10 4 , 7.4 × 10 2 to 1.4 × 10 3 , 2.5 × 10 2 to 6.4 × 10 3 , and 1.2 × 10 3 to 5.5 × 10 3 , respectively. The densities of 16S rRNA genes per gram of soil increased with…
Sample Preparation Improvement in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Determination in Olive Oils by Gel Permeation Chromatography and Liquid Chromatogr…
2005
Abstract The determination of 15 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in olive oil samples has been improved in order to obtain a fast methodology with a low limit of detection through the combination of liquid–liquid extraction with acetonitrile and preparative gel permeation chromatography (GPC) prior to the injection of purified extracts into a C18 column. Acetonitrile–water was used as the mobile phase with a gradient from 50 to 95%, w/w, acetonitrile in 30 min. The oven temperature was maintained at 15°C, and fluorometric detection was made at a fixed excitation wavelength of 264 nm and variable, optimal emission wavelength for each analyte ranging from 352 nm for 11-H-benzo(b)fluor…
Generalized effective stress concept for saturated active clays
2021
Experimental evidence shows that changes in pore-water chemistry can significantly affect the mechanical behavior of saturated active clays. Despite this evidence, how the chemical composition of the pore water can be considered in effective stress definition is questionable. This paper develops the concept of generalized effective stress for active clays. To this end, physicochemical studies on water–clay mineral interactions are used to clearly define the different types of ions and water present in an active clay. In particular, the presence of both movable and non-movable ions within the liquid water is highlighted. Taking this into account, thermodynamic and geochemistry principles ar…
