3D RECONSTRUCTION-REVERSE ENGINEERING- DIGITAL FABRICATION OF THE EGYPTIAN PALERMO STONE USING BY SMARTPHONE AND LIGHT STRUCTURED SCANNER
2018
Abstract. This paper presents a pipeline that has been developed to acquire a shape with particular features both under the geometric and radiometric aspects. In fact, the challenge was to build a 3D model of the black Stone of Palermo, where the oldest Egyptian history was printed with the use of hieroglyphs. The dark colour of the material and the superficiality of the hieroglyphs' groove have made the acquisition process very complex to the point of having to experiment with a pipeline that allows the structured light scanner not to lose the homologous points in the 3D alignment phase. For the texture reconstruction we used a last generation smartphone.
INTEGRATED SFM TECHNIQUES USING DATA SET FROM GOOGLE EARTH 3D MODEL AND FROM STREET LEVEL
2017
Abstract. Structure from motion (SfM) represents a widespread photogrammetric method that uses the photogrammetric rules to carry out a 3D model from a photo data set collection. Some complex ancient buildings, such as Cathedrals, or Theatres, or Castles, etc. need to implement the data set (realized from street level) with the UAV one in order to have the 3D roof reconstruction. Nevertheless, the use of UAV is strong limited from the government rules. In these last years, Google Earth (GE) has been enriched with the 3D models of the earth sites. For this reason, it seemed convenient to start to test the potentiality offered by GE in order to extract from it a data set that replace the UAV …
EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF DILUTE SOLID-LIQUID SUSPENSION IN AN UNBAFFLED STIRRED VESSELS BY A NOVEL PULSED LASER BASED IMAGE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE
2009
The availability of experimental information on solid distribution inside stirred tanks is a topic of great importance in several industrial applications. The measurement of solid particle distribution in turbulent multiphase flow is not simple and the development of suitable measurement techniques is still in progress. In this work a novel non-intrusive technique for measuring particle concentration fields in solid-liquid systems is employed. The technique makes use of a laser sheet, a high sensitivity digital camera for image acquisition and a Matlab procedure for post-processing the acquired images. Experimental data are here obtained for the case of an unbaffled stirred tank. Stable tor…
Potential of thermal images and simulation models to assess water and salt stress: Application to potato crop in central Tunisia
2017
The growing water scarcity is a real concern in Mediterranean countries characterized by semi-arid or arid climate such as Tunisia, where it is crucial to improve water use efficiency without affecting agricultural productivity. The importance of identifying methods and technologies to optimize water use in agriculture has been recognized worldwide, in response to the limited water availability. Objective of the paper was to verify the potential of the combined use of infrared thermography and simulation models to assess the effects of water and salt stress on potato crop parameters and crop yield, under the environmental conditions of central Tunisia. The database collected with field expe…

Le infinite vite delle fotografie: l’ecologia delle immagini di Joachim Schmid
2015
The turn from analogue to digital photography requires rethinking the heuristic potential of this medium: in the last century, it was produced countless photos and we lost the sense of them. What should we do with all these pictures? Joachim Schimd reflects on the abundance and proliferation of images and he works to give them a future in the age when digital technology changes our sense of what it means to take a picture. So we need an ecology of images which consists in the re-use of all the existing photos by an aesthetics of remix able to reorganize the sense of the images.

Descriptive problems and numerical thinking: The case of one hundred poultryUnder the methodological framework of the didactic analysis and historical-epistemological analysis a study of the classical descriptive problems that emanate from the “hundred poultry” is presented. A…
Real and simulated endoscopy of neurosurgical approaches in an anatomical model
1997
Endoscopy simulation is a new visualisation technique which can be used to visualise patient anatomy as seen through endoscopes. In the following, we describe the application of simulated endoscopy to neurosurgical endoscopic approaches. We assess different aspects of virtual images and their influence on the final result, as judged by clinicians. One of these aspects is the projective geometry which is used to render the 3D images. Rendering using stereographic projection leads to more realistic endoscopic views than perspective projection.

Das Körpererleben gynäkologischer Patientinnen vor und nach radikaler Chirurgie
2001
After radical gynecologic surgery women are faced with therapy-induced changes of their body. Since 1995, the body images of women who undergo pelvic exenteration, Wertheim-Meigs-operation or hysterectomy are assessed preoperatively and four and twelve months postoperatively. The aim of this multidimensional prospective study is to get basic information for effective counselling and support. One year after hysterectomy women state to have a normal body image. Cancer patients feel less attractive, less self-confident and more discontented in sexuality depending on therapy-induced changes of their bodies. These women could profit from problem-related preoperative counselling. Postoperative co…
