Doświadczanie migracji w opisach polskich imigrantów

2017

Intercultural Profiles and Adaptation Among Immigrant and Autochthonous Adolescents

2015

Few studies examine relationships between intercultural strategies and adaptation among adolescents using a person-oriented approach. Framed from an intercultural psychology perspective, this study used such an approach in order to examine the influence of intercultural profiles, patterns of relationships among variables related to intercultural strategies, on the adaptation of adolescents of both non-dominant and dominant groups. Two hundred and fifty-six adolescents living in Italy and aged from 14 to 18 participated to the study: 127 immigrants from Tunisia (males = 49.61%) and 129 autochthonous (males = 44.19%). Data were collected through self-report questionnaires. Using cluster analy…

Understanding the health care pattern of homeless children through their residential journey

2021

A nomad from within? : resilient identities in an interconnected world : Russian-speaking immigrant women in Italy (re)-constructing the self

2017

Within the current political context of global migration the concept of ‘identity’ has played a major role in the struggle between assimilative and exclusionary practices and policies. Such policies in many cases are the result of a wronged imagination about human identity and the subjects who possess it. In my master’s thesis I conceptualize ‘resilient identity’ as an innovative and highly needed approach to studying today’s constantly transforming subjectivity. Through the analysis of the self-narratives of Russian-speaking female immigrants in Italy, I explore how ‘resilience of identity’ is constructed and manifests itself. My thesis additionally brings together the philosophical and th…

“At the Western Palace”: The Dehumanization of Whiteness, Americanness, and Chinese-Americanness in Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior

2021

The dehumanization of whiteness in Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior (1976) inheres in the overarching ghosthood metaphor. While first generation Chinese American immigrants in The Woman Warrior attribute the power of transforming people into ghosts to the United States of America as a country, the questioning of a person’s humanity by calling them a “ghost” is not reserved for white people alone. Chinese American immigrants also run the risk of losing their humanity and becoming ghosts if they renounce their relatives and their heritage. The husband of the first-person narrator’s Chinese aunt, Moon Orchid, is an example of a Chinese American man, who turns into a ghost on account of…

Interpersonal relationships of immigrant students

2011

This study explores the interpersonal relationships of immigrant students. This is a current topic because immigration to Finland has increased rapidly and student groups are more diverse than ever before. The aim is to study immigrant students’ experiences and expectations of their interpersonal relationships and how they develop and maintain them, and also to understand how interpersonal relationships affect the immigrant students’ adaptation to the new environment. This study is qualitative. The theoretical part of the study is based on the theories related to interpersonal relationships, uncertainty management, and identity. The Stress-adaptation-growth dynamic process model of Kim (200…

Second-generation immigrants and factors that create challenges to enter Finnish labour market

2018

The aims of this study are to find out the most key factors that have negatively influenced second-generation immigrants with different foreign origins and ethnicities in their quest for job opportunities in the Finnish labour market. This stud‎y was done through qualitative research methods, which consisted of 15 second-generation immigrants, aged 18-35. These immigrants were divided into three main groups, which included European, Asian, and those of African backgrounds. This was to examine the role of ethnic aspects and to analyse the level of discrimination on different bases. The study was done through depth semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The questions which I asked the parti…
