On-line Mössbauer measurements at low temperatures of 83mKr implanted into Al

1978

Abstract A vacuum ion implantation chamber housing a helium flow cryostat and a Mossbauer transducer has been constructed and coupled directly to an ion separator for low temperature implantation and on-line Mossbauer measurements. 83m Kr, produced by thermal neutron activation of enriched 82 Kr gas, has been implanted into Al foils in the temperature range 15–300 K. Annealing effects and the temperature dependence of the Lamb-Mossbauer factor have been studied by Mossbauer measurements (at 15–35 K) using the implanted Al targets as sources and Kr/hydrochinone as absorber.

Peri-implant parameters in head and neck reconstruction: influence of extraoral skin or intraoral mucosa.

2009

Objective: This study is designed to assess dental implants supporting overdentures in edentulous patients with operated head and neck malignancies using parameters to detect peri-implant disease. Material and methods: Thirty-four implants supporting overdentures in 34 oral cancer patients were examined. Clinical parameters [plaque index, probing depth, bleeding on probing (BOP), origin of peri-implant soft tissue, and amount of irradiation] were recorded, and microbiological identification of periodontal pathogens was carried out by DNA–DNA hybridization. To identify yeast species, the samples were cultivated on Sabouraud agar plates and subsequently identified by API 20C AUX plates. An im…

Narrow-diameter implants: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

2018

OBJECTIVES Narrow-diameter implants (NDI) are claimed to be a reasonable alternative to bone augmentation procedures. The aim of this comprehensive literature review was to conduct a meta-analysis comparing the implant survival of NDI and standard diameter implants (SDI) and to provide recommendations and guidelines for application of NDI. MATERIAL AND METHODS An extensive systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library databases. NDI were classified into Category 1 (implant diameter <3.0 mm, "mini-implants"), Category 2 (implant diameter 3-3.25 mm) and Category 3 (implant diameters 3.3-3.5 mm). Clinical studies at all levels of evidence with at lea…

Aortic stenosis: insights on pathogenesis and clinical implications

2016

Aortic stenosis (AS) is a common valvular heart disease in the Western populations, with an estimated overall prevalence of 3% in adults over 75 years. To understand its patho-biological processes represents a priority. In elderly patients, AS usually involves trileaflet valves and is referred to as degenerative calcific processes. Scientific evidence suggests the involvement of an active "atherosclerosis-like" pathogenesis in the initiation phase of degenerative AS. To the contrary, the progression could be driven by different forces (such as mechanical stress, genetic factors and interaction between inflammation and calcification). The improved understanding presents potentially new thera…

Treatment concepts of horizontally deficient ridges-A retrospective study comparing narrow-diameter implants in pristine bone with standard-diameter …

2021

OBJECTIVES To compare clinical and radiological outcomes of narrow-diameter implants (NDI) placed in pristine bone to standard-diameter implants placed in combination with horizontal bone augmentation procedures (SDI+A) for horizontally deficient alveolar ridges. MATERIAL AND METHODS For this retrospective study, the outcome of 597 NDI (∅ 3.3 mm, 272 patients), inserted in pristine bone, were compared with 180 SDI (∅ 4.1 mm, 83 patients), inserted in combination with horizontal augmentation procedures. Oral health-related quality of life was assessed in patients available for recall. RESULTS After a mean follow-up of 37.6 ± 40 months for the NDI and of 42.4 ± 49 months for the SDI+A, surviv…

Effects of minute misregistrations of prefabricated markers for image-guided dental implant surgery: an analytical evaluation

2012

Objectives The goal of the present study was to develop a theoretical analysis of errors in implant position, which can occur owing to minute registration errors of a reference marker in a cone beam computed tomography volume when inserting an implant with a surgical stent. Material and methods A virtual dental-arch model was created using anatomic data derived from the literature. Basic trigonometry was used to compute effects of defined minute registration errors of only voxel size. The errors occurring at the implant's neck and apex both in horizontal as in vertical direction were computed for mean ±95%-confidence intervals of jaw width and length and typical implant lengths (8, 10 and 1…

Oral rehabilitation with tilted dental implants: A metaanalysis

2012

Objective: To compare the course of patients treated with tilted implants versus those treated conventionally with axial implants, analyzing the success rate and marginal bone loss. Material and M ethods: A PubMed search was made using the key words ?tilted implants?, ?angled implants?, ?angulated implants?, ?inclined implants? and ?maxillary atrophy.? A review was made of the articles published between 1999-2010. The inclusion criteria were the use of tilted implants, clinical series involving at least 10 patients, and a minimum follow-up of 12 months after prosthetic loading. The exclusion criteria were isolated clinical cases, studies with missing data, and publications in languages othe…

A Prospective Noninterventional Study to Evaluate Survival and Success of Reduced Diameter Implants Made From Titanium-Zirconium Alloy

2015

Narrow diameter implants may be at increased risk of overload due to occlusal forces; therefore, implants with higher fatigue strength may be beneficial. The aim of this observational study was to evaluate survival and success of narrow diameter (Ø 3.3 mm) TiZr alloy (Roxolid, Institut Straumann AG, Basel, Switzerland) implants for 2 years in daily dental practice. This was a prospective, non-interventional, multicenter study; no specific patient inclusion or exclusion criteria were applied. Each patient received at least one TiZr implant; the treatment plan, including implant loading and final restoration, was at the investigator's discretion. The primary outcome was implant survival and s…

Impact of abutment geometry on early implant marginal bone loss. A double‐blind, randomized, 6‐month clinical trial

2022

Objectives The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of the abutment width on early marginal bone loss (MBL). Material and Methods A balanced, randomized, double-blind clinical trial with two parallel experimental arms was conducted without a control group. The arms were “cylindrical” abutment and “concave” abutment. Eighty hexagonal internal connection implants, each with a diameter of 4 × 10 mm, were placed in healed mature bone. The main variable was the peri-implant tissue stability, which was measured as MBL at 8 weeks and 6 months. Results The final sample consisted of 77 implants that were placed in 25 patients. 38 (49.4%) were placed using the cylindrical abutment, and t…
