Treatment with an Allogeneic Leukemia-Derived Dendritic Cell Vaccine in AML Patients Shows MRD Conversion and Improved Survival
2021
Abstract Background. Persistence of measurable residual disease (MRD) is a poor prognostic factor and predicts relapse in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In a phase I study, the allogeneic leukemia-derived dendritic cell vaccine, DCP-001, has shown safety and humoral and cellular immune responses (A.A. van de Loosdrecht, et al. Cancer Immunol. Immunother. 2018;67:1505). In the current phase II study, (Clintrials.gov: NCT03697707) we report on progress and evaluation of MRD conversion, as primary endpoint, relapse free and overall survival. Methods. AML-patients, ineligible at screening for HSCT, who are in first complete remission (CR1) but with MRD receive 4 biweekly doses of 25e6 or 50e6 ce…

Life Imprisonment Without Prospect of Release: Comparative Remarks from a Human-Rights Perspective
2019
Life imprisonment without prospect of release is a penalty experiencing remarkable success today, especially in Europe. However, certain human rights bodies have recently begun to assert that this penalty runs counter the so-called ‘right to hope’, derived by way of interpretation from the right not to be subject to inhuman or degrading treatment. The purpose of the present contribution is to shed light on the potential and the limits of such trend by analyzing the case-law of universal (such as the UN system) and regional (the European system, the Inter-American system; the African system) bodies.
The Ambiguous Position of the Italian Constitutional Court on Life Imprisonment
2021
On 15 April 2021, the Italian Constitutional Court ruled on the constitutionality of life imprisonment. The main issue concerned the possibility of granting release on licence to convicted criminals sentenced to life imprisonment for very severe offences.
Génétique des textes et système chaotique
2016
Textual genetics and chaotic system Although we share Louis Hay's idea that it is impossible to homologate and systematize the operations which can be observed in manuscripts, it is however possible to interpret whatever creation process in terms of the passage from entropy to order. The possibility of an analogy between text and chaotic system had been advanced by Noëlle Batt according to whom each work actually satisfies the principles of the chaotic system. It is starting from such principles that we will try to show the analogy between chaotic system and textual genetics: 1. The fact that we are dealing with an evolving system (with variables and permanent features) endowed with a tempo…
A cross-cultural investigation of email communication in Peninsular Spanish and British English. The role of (in)formality and (in)directness
2013
This paper examines the email discursive practices of particular speakers of two different languages, namely Peninsular Spanish and British English. More specifically, our study focuses on (in)formality and (in)directness therein, for these lie at the heart of considerable scholarly debate regarding, respectively (i) the general stylistic drift towards orality and informality in technology-mediated communication, and (ii) the degree of communicative (in)directness – within broader politeness orientations – of speakers of different languages, specifically an orientation towards directness in Peninsular Spanish vis-à-vis indirectness in British English. The aim of this paper is thus to invest…

La Gramatica de la Lengua Vulgar de España (Lovaina, 1559), ¿anónima?
2021
Improved noninvasive prediction of liver fibrosis by liver stiffness measurement in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease accounting for con…
2016
Background and aims: Liver stiffness measurement (LSM) frequently overestimates the severity of liver fibrosis In Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP) is a new parameter provided by the same machine used for LSM, and associated with both steatosis and BMI, the two factors mostly affecting LSM peformance in NAFLD. We aimed to determine wheter prediction of liver fibrosis by LSM in NAFLD patients is affected by CAP values. Methods: Patients (n=324) were assessed by clinical and histological (Kleiner score) features. LSM and CAP were performed using the M probe. CAP values were grouped by tertiles (lower from 132 to 298, middle from 299 to 338, highe…
