Anisotropic elasto-optic effect in optical fibers under axial strain: a perturbative approach

2016

We present a perturbative approximation to calculate the relative shift of the WGM resonances in a conventional optical fibers when an axial strain is applied. We consider the anisotropic character of the elasto-optic effect.

Solitons in Optical Fibers

1996

In the near future nonlinear optics should probably revolutionize the world of telecommunications and computer technologies. With lasers producing highintensity and short-duration optical pulses, it is now possible to probe the interesting, and potentially useful, nonlinear effects in optical systems and waveguides. Among the guiding structures, the optical fiber is an interesting (Gloge 1979) and important device (Mollenauer and Stolen 1982; Doran and Blow 1983). In an optical transmission system using linear pulses, the bit rate of transmission is limited by the dispersive character of the material, which causes the pulse to spread out an eventually overlap to such an extend that all the …

A universal all-fiber omnipolarizer

2013

The all-optical control of light polarization is nowadays a fundamental issue which finds important applications in optical networks. In this field, the research has moved on the development of nonlinear methods of re-polarization of a partially coherent and initially depolarized light [1]. The main drawback of most of these devices is that they suffer from a large amount of output Relative-Intensity-Noise (RIN). However, a class of polarizers have been recently proposed which is based on the nonlinear interaction between two optical beams counter-propagating in a fiber [2]: in these devices the arbitrary state of polarization (SOP) of one of the two beams (signal) is attracted towards a sp…

A universal all-fiber Omnipolarizer

2014

We report the experimental observation of self-polarization of light in optical fibers through a counter-propagating four-wave mixing between an incident signal and its backward replica. An efficient self-polarization of a 40-Gbit/s signal is demonstrated.

Stable coupled conjugate solitary waves in optical fibers.

1998

Four-wave mixing of an intense continuous-wave pump beam with an ultrashort soliton signal in an optical fiber is theoretically analyzed. A novel class of stable two-color coupled solitary waves is found. These vector parametric solitons represent the optimal frequency conversion of an ultrashort pulse. © 1998 Optical Society of America.

Surface Reconstruction of Transparent Objects by Polarization Imaging

2008

This paper focuses a method to acquire the surface of transparent objects for 3D measurement. The technique relies on the so called ?Shape from Polarization? technique. The principle of this polarization imaging technique is as follows: after being reflected, an unpolarized light becomes partially linearly polarized. The surface normals can be evaluated by analyzing their polarization parameters and by knowing the refractive index of the object to be controlled. Finally, the 3D shape is obtained by integrating the normals field. After an introduction to expose the problematic, section 2 exposes the principles of polarization technique. The third and the last section deal with the polarimetr…

Strong lowering of the mirrorless optical oscillation threshold by angular mismatches for nonlocal photorefractive nonlinearity.

2008

We show that the introduction of an angular mismatch for the pump waves results, in the case of nonlocal photorefractive nonlinearity, in a strong almost twofold decrease of the threshold value of the coupling strength for the mirrorless optical oscillation. This surprising feature will lead to a strong modification of the threshold and near-threshold behavior of a vast variety of optical oscillators based on the photorefractive phase conjugation and involving finite-size light beams.
