Minimality via second variation for microphase separation of diblock copolymer melts

Abstract We consider a non-local isoperimetric problem arising as the sharp interface limit of the Ohta–Kawasaki free energy introduced to model microphase separation of diblock copolymers. We perform a second order variational analysis that allows us to provide a quantitative second order minimality condition. We show that critical configurations with positive second variation are indeed strict local minimizers of the problem. Moreover, we provide, via a suitable quantitative inequality of isoperimetric type, an estimate of the deviation from minimality for configurations close to the minimum in the L 1 {L^{1}} -topology.

Yksilön asenteet eivät ole satunnaiset. Sen sijaan ihmiset omaksuvat tiettyjä asennekokonaisuuksia, eli poliittisia ideologioita, joita eri sosiaaliset ryhmät ylläpitävät. Resumen: El artículo propone profundizar un enfoque de la interseccionalidad poco desarrollado dentro de los estudios jurídicos: la interseccionalidad estructural. A través del análisis de dos casos de esterilización forzosa del TEDH, referidos a dos grupos interseccionales distintos (mujeres gitanas y mujeres con discapacidad), la contribución tiene como fin subrayar el interés que conlleva la investigación sobre las dinámicas de poder en los casos de desigualdad compleja. En ambos casos emergen algunos elementos críticos comunes a la configuración del derecho y de su interpretación a la hora de enfrentarse al solapamiento de múltiples categorias de discriminación.

En una época de cambios tecnológicos y sociales, la ciudadanía demanda nuevos canales de participación pública. En los últimos tiempos distintos procesos de participación recurren a la opinión ciudadana para adoptar decisiones. El movimiento de los chalecos amarillos desencadenó una ola de protestas en Francia a la que quiso hacerse frente con el Grand Débat National, un proceso participativo multicanal, a distintos niveles administrativos. El estudio de su desarrollo y resultados debe servir para diseñar futuros procesos similares.

Value preserving portfolio strategies and the minimal martingale measure

We consider some relations between the minimal martingale measure and the value preserving martingale measure in a continuous-time securities market. Under the assumption of continuous share prices we show that under a structure condition both these martingale measures exist and indeed coincide. This however does not mean that the corresponding concepts of value preserving portfolio strategies and (local) risk minimisation in the area of option hedging in incomplete markets are identical.

Recent studies have suggested that excessive intake of dietary fat is associated with obesity. Some obese subjects have been reported to exhibit high thresholds for the gustatory detection of lipids via lipid receptors, such as cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36). We studied lingual detection thresholds for emulsions containing oleic acid in obese Tunisian women (n203) using a three-alternative forced choice (3-AFC) method. Several studies have investigated the association between net survival and social inequalities in people with cancer, highlighting a varying influence of deprivation depending on the type of cancer studied. However, few of these studies have accounted for the effect of social inequalities over the follow-up period, and/or according to the age of the patients.
