L'administration conjointe du dossier patient: une responsabilité partagée entre le patient et le praticien

2011

National audience; The main problem faced by patients, health practitioners and the authorities, is namely the gathering and updating of administrative and medical data in order to accurately reconstitute a patient's medical history. Although solutions to accelerate and to ease this gathering are being implemented at the national level in several European countries, as unique health identifier in France, information still have to be validated before use. Through this article, we propose a mixed management of patients' data, split between the patient regarding administrative information and the Medical Practitioner (MP) regarding medical information. This method is based on two processes. Th…

Ad-Hoc Segmentation Pipeline for Microarray Image Analysis

2006

Microarray is a new class of biotechnologies able to help biologist researches to extrapolate new knowledge from biological experiments. Image Analysis is devoted to extrapolate, process and visualize image information. For this reason it has found application also in Microarray, where it is a crucial step of this technology (e.g. segmentation). In this paper we describe MISP (Microarray Image Segmentation Pipeline), a new segmentation pipeline for Microarray Image Analysis. The pipeline uses a recent segmentation algorithm based on statistical analysis coupled with K-Means algorithm. The Spot masks produced by MISP are used to determinate spots information and quality measures. A software …

The risk for cardiovascular disease in women: from estrogens to selective estrogen receptor modulators.

2006

Cardiovascular disease, a generic denomination including coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and venous thromboembolic disease (VTED), has shown sensitivity to estrogens. The relative protection of women as compared with men has nourished a debate about a possible protective role for estrogens, but the prejudicial effects detected in clinical trials has created confusion on the risk/benefit ratio induced by hormone administration. The hypothesis that agonists distinct to estrogens might improve the effects associated with estrogens is at the base of the increasing interest on the role of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). There is a lack of definitive clearcut clinical data o…

Effects of the Best Possible Self intervention: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2019

The Best Possible Self (BPS) exercise promotes a positive view of oneself in the best possible future, after working hard towards it. Since the first work that attempted to examine the benefits of this intervention in 2001, studies on the BPS have grown exponentially and, currently, this is one of the most widely used Positive Psychology Interventions. However, little is yet known about its overall effectiveness in increasing wellbeing outcomes. Thus, the aim of this meta-analysis is to shed light on this question. A systematic literature search was conducted, and 29 studies (in 26 articles) met the inclusion criteria of empirically testing the intervention and comparing it to a control con…

Low Grade Inflammation as a Common Pathogenetic Denominator in Age-Related Diseases: Novel Drug Targets for Anti-Ageing Strategies and Successful Age…

2010

Nowadays, people are living much longer than they used to do, however they are not free from ageing. Ageing, an inexorable intrinsic process that affects all cells, tissues, organs and individuals, is a post-maturational process that, due to a diminished homeostasis and increased organism frailty, causes a reduction of the response to environmental stimuli and, in general, is associated to an increased predisposition to illness and death. However, the high incidence of death due to infectious, cardiovascular and cancer diseases underlies a common feature in these pathologies that is represented by dysregulation of both instructive and innate immunity. Several studies show that a low-grade s…

Effects of Aging and Diet on Cardioprotection and Cardiometabolic Risk Markers.

2019

The prevalence of several diseases increases by age, including cardiovascular diseases, which are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Aging, as a complex process characterized by senescence, triggers various pathways, such as oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, metabolism dysfunction, telomere shortening, mitochondrial dysfunction and deregulated autophagy. A better understanding of the mechanisms underlying senescence may lead to the development of new therapeutic targets and strategies for age-related pathologies and extend the healthy lifespan. Modulating lifestyle risk factors and adopting healthy dietary patterns remain significant tools in delaying the aging …

SGLT2i and GLP-1RA in Cardiometabolic and Renal Diseases: From Glycemic Control to Adipose Tissue Inflammation and Senescence

2021

Background. Over the last few years, the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) has increased substantially in medical practice due to their documented benefits in cardiorenal and metabolic health. In this sense, and in addition to being used for glycemic control in diabetic patients, these drugs also have other favorable effects such as weight loss and lowering blood pressure, and more recently, they have been shown to have cardio and renoprotective effects with anti-inflammatory properties. Concerning the latter, the individual or associated use of these antihyperglycemic agents has been linked with a decrease in p…

Telomere length and cardiovascular disease

2010

SummaryTelomeres are structures composed of deoxyribonucleic acid repeats that protect the end of chromosomes, but shorten with each cell division. They have been the subject of many studies, particularly in the field of oncology, and more recently their role in the onset, development and prognosis of cardiovascular disease has generated considerable interest. It has already been shown that these structures may deteriorate at the beginning of the atherosclerotic process, in the onset and development of arterial hypertension or during myocardial infarction, in which their length may be a predictor of outcome. As telomere length by its nature is a marker of cell senescence, it is of particula…

Hsp60 and Hsp10 in Ageing

2009

HSP and molecular chaperones, both referred to in this chapter as chaperones, are key players in development and senescence. With regard to senescence, several issues are critical: the role of normal chaperones in the process of ageing itself and in preventing and controlling age-associated diseases, the role of defective chaperones (chaperonopathies) in the onset and progression of senescence and in the etiology of old-age diseases, the interaction of chaperones with the immune system, and the potential of chaperones as therapeutic agents for counteracting the deleterious effects of ageing on molecules and cells and for treating proteinopathies of the elderly (chaperonotherapy). All these …
