Public Libraries – Facilitators of Information Society and e- Inclusion in Latvia

Abstract The economic growth and national competitiveness is closely correlated with the development of information society. In the last few years the role of public libraries has significantly increased and libraries have greatly contributed to the improvement of information society in Latvia. The usage of library services had never been as high as they were in 2011 – 42% of the population were active library users and 90% of them used the Internet. Nowadays, the public library network in Latvia provides a powerful network of information, knowledge and community centres and they are highly demanded by society.

Often the interest lies in the identification of the effect of an action which means deriving an expression from the observed probability distribution for the interventional distribution resulting from the action. Artykuł prezentuje ocenę jakości informacji w wybranych polskich katalogach stron WWW. W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowano charakterystykę, klasyfikację i ranking popularności katalogów stron. Następnie przedstawiono metodykę badania oceny jakości informacji w katalogach stron WWW. Do pomiaru jakości informacji zaproponowano kwestionariusz ankietowy. W drugiej części artykułu przedstawiono wyniki ewaluacji jakości informacji w wybranych katalogach stron WWW. Należy podkreślić, że wyniki badań są ograniczone ze względu na niewielką reprezentatywność próby. Artykuł kończy podsumowanie zawierające wnioski oraz wskazówki dotyczące dalszych kierunków badań.

Selective writing and read-out of a register of static qubits

We propose a setup comprising an arbitrarily large array of static qubits (SQs), which interact with a flying qubit (FQ). The SQs work as a quantum register, which can be written or read-out by means of the FQ through quantum state transfer (QST). The entire system, including the FQ's motional degrees of freedom, behaves quantum mechanically. We demonstrate a strategy allowing for selective QST between the FQ and a single SQ chosen from the register. This is achieved through a perfect mirror located beyond the SQs and suitable modulation of the inter-SQ distances.
