However, data on the different behaviour of PAC after food intake in subjects of the same sex are still lacking. This study aimed at further investigating the antioxidant effect of smoked paprika (Pimenton La Vera, Spain) in healthy subjects. Crossover study included male students (age 20.6 ± 1.7 years) who consumed smoked or non-smoked paprika (2 g/day, 20 times, over 30 days). After ingestion of smoked paprika, plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were significantly (p < 0.01) reduced versus basal and non-smoked paprika ingestion values. Reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were increased and oxidised glutathione (GSSG) levels reduced significantly (p < 0.05) in paired subjects after consumption of smoked paprika. Abstract The role of Holothuria tubulosa in organic matter recycling of Posidonia oceanica detritus was estimated in a laboratory feeding experiment. The individual mean ingestion rate of seagrass detritus by holothurians was evaluated and carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes, carbon and nitrogen content and C:N ratio analyzed in H. tubulosa , P. oceanica detritus and surface sediment. Results showed that H. tubulosa is capable of ingesting from 30% to 100% of the detritus produced by P. oceanica meadows, depending on the holothurian density. The stimulatory effect of L-Dopa and L-Carbidopa (Nacom) on HGH secretion was determined in 12 children of normal height aged from 6 to 14 years. Each child received a standard dose of 250 mg L-Dopa and 25 mg L-Carbidopa p.o. HGH concentration in the serum was determined at standard intervals. All subjects showed a sufficient increase of HGH. The mean value was 19.6 ng/ml. According to the maximum values of the HGH concentration the sample can be divided into two groups; the first group reached the highest values after 20--40 min, the second one after 60--90 min.
