Conceptualization of aggressive driving behaviors through a Perception of aggressive driving scale (PAD)

2019

Abstract Research on traffic safety has highlighted the importance of studying and intervening in aggressive driving in order to reduce crashes and accidents. The main objective of this work is to describe the perception of what people consider an aggressive behavior, and their perception of which are the most aggressive acts performed when driving. The sample was composed of 1079 Spanish drivers aged over 14. They participated in a national telephone survey, completing a questionnaire which gathered socio-demographic data and information on the drivers’ profiles, containing a “Perception of aggressive driving Scale (PAD)”. The unifactorial ANOVA test for repeated measures of the General Li…

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS ON TEENAGE PEDESTRIAN-BUS IMPACT

2019

This work studies the impact conditions between the adolescent pedestrian and the bus focusing on head and chest injury. The injury to the head is analyzed using both the Head Injury Criterion (HIC) 36 and the HIC15 parameters as established by the most advanced legislation and comparing the risk probability Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS3+) and AIS4+. The parameter HIC15 gives a higher probability of risk with lower values, and therefore it can be considered more conservative. Moreover, the study of chest injury is performed with two different biomechanical parameters: the Thoracic Trauma Index (TTI) and the TTI(d); the last neglects the pedestrian mass. The results indicate that the param…

Socio-demographic, personal, environmental and behavioral correlates of different modes of transportation to work among Norwegian parents

2016

Abstract Background Cycling and brisk-walking to work represents an opportunity to incorporate sustainable transport related moderate- to- vigorous physical activity (MVPA) into daily routine among adults, and thus, may make an important contributing to health. Despite the fact that walking and cycling is an option for many commuters and also brings a number of benefits, a considerable proportion of commuters choose to use other means of transport when cycling and walking would be a highly appropriate transport mode. The object of this study was to assess the associations between modes of commuting to the workplace among parental adults; taking socio-demographic, personal, environmental and…

The role of moral disengagement and cognitive distortions toward children among sex offenders

2018

This study investigated the individual and social characteristics, moral disengagement strategies and cognitive distortions toward children among 120 sex offenders in Italian jails. A semistructured interview was administered to collect data about family, social and medical histories, utilizing the Moral Disengagement Scale and the Hanson Sex Attitude Questionnaire. Results showed that sex offenders with sexual abuse trauma in their past had higher scores of moral disengagement and cognitive distortion toward children than sex offenders without sexual abuse trauma. In particular, the highest levels of moral disengagement, cognitive distortions related to children as sexual objects and sexua…

Wheelchair half-marathon and marathon performance: The ‘Oita International Wheelchair Marathon’ 1983-2011

2013

Knechtle, B. & Lepers, R. (2013). Wheelchair half-marathon and marathon performance ‐ the ‘Oita International Wheelchair Marathon’ 1983-2011. J. Hum. Sport Exerc., 8(4), pp.974-985. We compared participation and performance trends of individuals with disabilities competing in the half- and full-marathon in the ‘Oita International Wheelchair Marathon’ from 1981 to 2011. The performance times decreased during the 1980’s until the middle 1990’s and stabilized thereafter for both half-marathoners and marathoners. The mean top five overall finishers times were 0:52±0:07 h:min for half-marathoners and 1:36 ±0:11 h:min for marathoners, respectively. The mean age of the finishers increased signific…

Neutrophil Recruitment Is Regulated By Adamts-13 in a Murine Model of Invasive Aspergillosis

2015

Abstract Introduction: During inflammation von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimers are secreted as an acute phase protein whereupon the size and the prothrombotic activity play an essential role. The size of VWF multimers is regulated by the specific proteolytic activity of ADAMTS-13 (a disintegrin and metalloprotease with ThromboSpondin type 1 repeats-13) which is diminished under several pathological conditions. Employing a murine model of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) we aimed to determine the relevance of this regulatory pathway for innate inflammatory responses and polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) recruitment which is crucial for fungal clearance and survival. Methods: IPA was…
