Background Cervical whiplash syndrome, or hyperextension-hyperflexion injury, is a common traumatic injury in sports activities. The mechanisms of injury that cause cervical whiplash syndrome vary, but they may be sufficient enough to cause chronic whiplash syndrome. Methods and Patients Over 150 injuries were recorded in sports in our Orthopaedic Departments between the years of 2008 and 2011. Whiplash spine injuries have been reported in most contact sports, including indoor soccer, basketball, and wrestling, and in several non contact sports, such as diving. A comparative investigation of differences in new bone formation and cortical remodelling after reamed and unreamed nailing was carried out in a standardized animal model. An oblique osteotomy of the tibia was created in 19 sheep, followed by intramedullary nailing. The medullary cavity was reamed ¶in 10 of the animals, while in 9 sheep unreamed nailing was performed. After an observation period of 10 weeks, microradiographical assessment indicated more intensive bone regeneration and better bridging of the osteotomy in the animals with unreamed nailing. The study examined (1) what dimensions of parenting would emerge from retrospective reports of parental behaviour, and (2) whether childhood family violence and parental problems are associated with later perceptions of parenting among 89 young male Finnish inmates. The inmates completed the Parent Behaviour Inventory (PBI) and the Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS). Data on childhood family violence and parental problems were obtained from two files. The PBI yielded three factors and the CTS two factors for both mothers and fathers. Hepatotoxicity is a rare complication of coumarin anticoagulants. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman who developed a viral-hepatitis-like picture 8 months after mitral valve replacement and oral anticoagulation. Phenprocoumon-induced hepatitis was diagnosed after positive reexposure and improvement following withdrawal of the drug. There appeared to be cross-reactivity to warfarin since this drug led to a similar increase in alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transferase after a few days of administration. As a matter of fact, the diagnosis may be delayed, leading to a rising risk of morbidity and mortality. This paper describes a case of conservative treatment of colonoscopy-associated splenic injury.
