Behavioural thresholds of blue tit colour vision and the effect of background chromatic complexity

2020

Vision is a vital attribute to foraging, navigation, mate selection and social signalling in animals, which often have a very different colour perception in comparison to humans. For understanding how animal colour perception works, vision models provide the smallest colour difference that animals of a given species are assumed to detect. To determine the just-noticeable-difference, or JND, vision models use Weber fractions that set discrimination thresholds of a stimulus compared to its background. However, although vision models are widely used, they rely on assumptions of Weber fractions since the exact fractions are unknown for most species. Here, we test; i) which Weber fractions in lo…

Telemedicine-Based Specialized Care Improves the Outcome of Anticoagulated Individuals with Venous Thromboembolism-Results from the thrombEVAL Study.

2020

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening disease with risk of recurrence. Oral anticoagulation (OAC) with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) is effective to prevent thromboembolic recurrence. We aimed to investigate the quality of OAC of VTE patients in regular medical care (RMC) compared to a telemedicine-based coagulation service (CS). The thrombEVAL study (NCT01809015) is a prospective, multi-center study to investigate OAC treatment (recruitment: January 2011&ndash

INSAID Variant Classification and Eurofever Criteria Guide Optimal Treatment Strategy in Patients with TRAPS: Data from the Eurofever Registry

2021

Contains fulltext : 231528.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: TNF receptor-associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS) is a rare autoinflammatory disease caused by dominant mutation of the TNF super family receptor 1A (TNFRSF1A) gene. Data regarding long-term treatment outcomes are lacking. OBJECTIVE: To assess correlations of genotype-phenotypes in patients with TRAPS, as defined by the International Study Group for Systemic Autoinflammatory Diseases (INSAID) classification and Eurofever criteria, with treatment responses. METHODS: Data from 226 patients with variants of the TNFRSF1A gene and enrolled in the Eurofever registry were classified according to the INSAID classifica…

THU0395 Adult Onset Still's Disease: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study of 233 Italian Patients

2014

Background Adult onset Still9s disease (AOSD) is a rare rheumatic disease with an estimated prevalence of less than 1 case per 100,000 population. The diagnosis is difficult and is often delayed due to the lack of specific diagnostic tests and the need to rule out other pathological entities. Objectives To describe the clinical characteristics of a multicenter Italian case series of patients with AOSD. Methods 14 Italian University Hospital centers participated in the study. A standardized medical record containing clinical data, laboratory investigations, disease patterns and the different therapies has been sent to all participating centers. Each center collected data retrospectively. Res…

SAT0511 CANAKINUMAB IN SYSTEMIC JUVENILE IDIOPATHIC ARTHRITIS: CLINICAL INACTIVE DISEASE RATE AND SAFETY IN ITALIAN PATIENTS

2019

Background: Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) is a polygenic autoinflammatory disease. The innate immune mechanisms play a central role with overproduction of inflammatory cytokines. The increased knowledge on the role of these cytokines has provided a change in the natural history of the disease with the introduction of the targeted treatments. Remarkable results has been observed with canakinumab, an anti-interleukin-1β monoclonal antibody, in two clinical trials but little information are available in real life. Objectives: To evaluate clinical inactive disease rate and safety of canakinumab in Italian patients with sJIA. Methods: We have collected retrospectively clinical an…

FRI0504 Prognostic Factors of Adult Onset Still's Disease: Analysis of 100 Cases in 3 Tertiary Referral Centers

2016

Background Adult onset Still9s disease (AOSD) is rare inflammatory disease [1]. Three different patterns of AOSD have been identified: i. monocyclic pattern, characterized by a systemic single episode; ii. polycyclic pattern, associated with multiple flares, separated by remissions; iii. chronic pattern, related to a persistently active disease with associated polyarthritis [2]. Until now, the treatment of AOSD remains largely empirical, lacking controlled clinical trials [1]. Objectives We aimed to investigate clinical data of AOSD patients and any possible correlation among these features and the outcome of patients. Methods Clinical data of 100 AOSD patients were recorded. All patients f…

Risk Factors Affect Long-Term Compliance to Coumadin Treatment (Self-Reporting)

2017

Abstract Low compliance to a prescribed Coumadin treatment can result in negative health outcomes. In this study we aimed to evaluate risk factors affecting patient compliance to Coumadin. For this purpose, two study phases were performed: Phase 1: a retrospective eight-year follow-up of databases from health care services; and Phase 2: a cross-sectional study with telephone interviews. A Total Compliance Index was constructed using the number of Coumadin purchases (40%), international standardised ratio (INR) tests (40%), and average INR values (20%). Multiple models for the Total Compliance Index were constructed using socio-demographic, treatment-related, and health care utilisation vari…
