Deployment of the ATLAS High-Level Trigger
2006
The ATLAS combined test beam in the second half of 2004 saw the first deployment of the ATLAS High-Level Trigger (HLT). The next steps are deployment on the pre-series farms in the experimental area during 2005, commissioning and cosmics tests with the full detector in 2006 and collisions in 2007. This paper reviews the experience gained in the test beam, describes the current status and discusses the further enhancements to be made. We address issues related to the dataflow, integration of selection algorithms, testing, software distribution, installation and improvements.

Deuteron photodisintegration by polarized photons in the region of the $d^*(2380)$
2019
We report the first large-acceptance measurement of the beam–spin asymmetry for deuteron photodisintegration (γ→d→pn) in the photon energy range 420<Eγ<620MeV. The measurement provides important new constraints on the mechanisms of photodisintegration above the Δ resonance and on the photocoupling of the recently discovered d⁎(2380) hexaquark.
Operational experience with a large detector system using silicon strip detectors with double sided readout
1992
Abstract A large system of silicon strip detectors with double sided readout has been successfully commissioned over the course of the last year at the e + e − collider LEP. The readout of this 73 728 channel system is performed with custom designed VLSI charge sensitive amplifier chips (CAMEX64A). An overall point resolution of 12 μm on both sides has been acheived for the complete system. The most important difficulties during the run were beam losses into the detector, and a chemical agent deposited onto the electronics; however, the damage from these sources was understood and brought under control. This and other results of the 1991 data-taking run are described with special emphasis o…
Overview of the DEMO staged design approach in Europe
2019
This paper describes the status of the pre-conceptual design activities in Europe to advance the technical basis of the design of a DEMOnstration Fusion Power Plant (DEMO) to come in operation around the middle of this century with the main aims of demonstrating the production of few hundred MWs of net electricity, the feasibility of operation with a closed-tritium fuel cycle, and maintenance systems capable of achieving adequate plant availability. This is expected to benefit as much as possible from the ITER experience, in terms of design, licensing, and construction. Emphasis is on an integrated design approach, based on system engineering, which provides a clear path for urgent R&D …
Two-body photodisintegration of the deuteron from 100 to 800 MeV
1996
Abstract The total and the differential cross sections for the D(γ,p)n reaction have been measured over the photon energy range 100-800 MeV at the 855 MeV MAMI Microtron in Mainz. Using the large acceptance detector DAPHNE in conjunction with the Glasgow tagging spectrometer, high precision results with small systematic errors were obtained. The data are presented in the form of thirty-five angular distributions at c.m. proton angles between 30°–160° in 10° intervals and at photon energies in steps of 20 MeV. Previous experimental work is reassessed in the light of the present results and comparison with some recent theoretical calculations.
Exchange currents in electric transitions and the rle of siegert's theorem: A case study in deuteron photodisintegration
1981
The size of exchange corrections to electric transitions is investigated for deuteron photodisintegration. Large contributions are found in El transitions, which become dominant above 40 MeV. Most of them are already included by using Siegert's theorem together with classical one-body operators. Higher multipoles are only little affected except for rather high energies. The Born approximation for the final states gives in general a poor description.
Deuteron photodisintegration with the Bonn OBE potentials
1989
The various OBE approximations to the recent Bonn potential are studied in deuteron photodisintegration below π-threshold. Consistent static meson-exchange currents, isobar currents, and the relativistic spin-orbit current are included. Concerning the OBEPT also the leading retardation corrections in the currents are taken into account. Comparison with experimental data is carried out in detail.
The γd → π0 d and γd → pn Reactions in the Δ-Resonance Region
1994
Coherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron and deuteron photodisintegration in the Δ-resonance region is studied treating the final state interaction within a NN−NΔ coupled channel approach.
Measurement of photon showers in lead produced by electrons of 150 MeV
1976
Abstract The photon energy spectra induced by 150 MeV electrons in lead were measured in the energy range from 40 MeV up to the primary electron energy. The target thickness was varied between 0.1 and 2.5 radiation lengths X 0 . The photons were analyzed by use of a technique based on deuteron photodisintegration. Differential and integral shower spectra are presented and compared with Monte Carlo calculations of Nagel and Messel et al., both interpolated to our primary energy of 150 MeV. The measured spectra show good agreement with these Monte Carlo calculations for the thickest target of 2.5 X 0 and with calculated bremsstrahlung spectra for the thinnest target of 0.1 X 0 . Considerable …
