Tetrathiotetracene thin film morphology and electrical properties

2015

The electrical properties of organic thin films are determined by their chemical constituents and the morphology of the films deposited. In this paper the morphology of vacuum sublimed (7?10-6 mbar) tetrathiotetracene (TTT) thin films is shown to be strongly affected by the thermal deposition temperature (222-350 K) and rate of deposition. Mostly needle-like morphologies are identified by scanning electron microscopy. Optimal TTT purity (a pre-requisite for device preparation via subsequent oxidation) is evidenced by their initially low electrical conductivity. Altering the TTT morphology, by variation of the evaporation parameters, strongly affects this base electrical conductivity. Four p…

Growth and size distribution of Au nanoparticles in annealed Au/TiO2 thin films

2014

Abstract Nanocomposites consisting of noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in TiO2 thin films are of great interest for applications in optoelectronics, photocatalysis and solar-cells for which the plasmonic properties of the metal NPs play a major role. This work investigates the first stages of the formation of gold NPs by thermal annealing of Au-doped TiO2 thin films grown by magnetron sputtering. A low concentration of gold in the films is considered (5 at.%) in order to study the first stages of the formation of the NPs. Raman spectroscopy is used to follow the crystallization of TiO2 when increasing the annealing temperature. In addition, low-frequency Raman scattering (LFRS) is u…

Deformation behavior and interfacial sliding in carbon/copper nanocomposite films deposited by high power DC magnetron sputtering

2015

Abstract Amorphous carbon–copper nanocomposite films with a carbon content from 7 to 40 at.% have been deposited onto steel, silicon and glass substrates using a high power (> 60 W/cm 2 ) and high-rate DC magnetron sputtering technique. XRD, Raman spectroscopy and TEM results confirm that the deposited films consist of copper nanograins (size

In-situ study of multi-phase indium nanoparticle growth on/into CuPcF4 organic thin film in ultra-high vacuum conditions

2021

Abstract We study the in-situ growth of a nanocomposite material consisting of a thin CuPcF4 film and multiphase/multidimensional indium nanoparticles, self-organizing on the surface and in the bulk, at various stages of thermal deposition of metal on an organic film under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The analysis of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) images provided valuable information about the evolution of morphology, size, density, and distribution of indium nanoparticles upon indium deposition. These 2D/3D ultra-small nano-objects turned out to have not only body-centered tetragonal (bct) crystal structure, typical for bulk indium, but also unusual face-centered…

Effect of Hydration Procedure of Fumed Silica Precursor on the Formation of Luminescent Carbon Centers in SiO 2 :C Nanocomposites

2019

The effect of hydration procedure of fumed silica precursor on photoluminescent properties of carbonized silica (SiO2:C) nanocomposite after chemo/thermal treatments is studied. Main structural effect is the formation of chemical bonding of phenyl groups to silica surface via multiple CSiO bonding bridges. Synthesized samples demonstrate very broad photoluminescence (PL) bands in near ultraviolet and visible ranges with maximum intensity dependent on temperature of thermal annealing. Two main trends in luminescence properties are: 1) hydration-induced blue shift of PL in comparison with PL of unhydrated series; 2) red shift of PL bands with increasing synthesis temperature regardless hydr…

Nanoindentation response analysis of Cu-rich carbon–copper composite films deposited by PVD technique

2015

Abstract The micromechanical properties of sputter deposited amorphous carbon–copper (a-C/Cu) composite films with different carbon content (6.8–19.8 at.%) were investigated. Atomic force and electron microscopy studies confirmed that the a-C/Cu films have a two-phase microstructure of amorphous sp 2 /sp 3 -bonded carbon as a composite matrix with embedded copper nanocrystallites encapsulated in a graphene shell. Load–displacement curves obtained in nanoindentation experiments followed Meyer's law with the exponent varying slightly within the interval 2.0–2.2 depending on the penetration depth and carbon content. The reverse indentation size effect was observed which was most likely the res…

Structural and chemical analysis of annealed plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition aluminum nitride films

2016

Plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition was utilized to grow aluminum nitride (AlN) films on Si from trimethylaluminum and N2:H2 plasma at 200 °C. Thermal treatments were then applied on the films which caused changes in their chemical composition and nanostructure. These changes were observed to manifest in the refractive indices and densities of the films. The AlN films were identified to contain light element impurities, namely, H, C, and excess N due to nonideal precursor reactions. Oxygen contamination was also identified in the films. Many of the embedded impurities became volatile in the elevated annealing temperatures. Most notably, high amounts of H were observed to desorb from the…

Modelling nanoparticles formation in the plasma plume induced by nanosecond pulsed lasers

2012

International audience; Nanoparticles formation in a laser-induced plasma plume in the ambient air has been investigated by using numerical simulations and physical models. For high irradiances, or for ultrashort laser pulses, nanoparticles are formed by condensation, as fine powders, in the expanding plasma for very high pairs of temperature and pressure. At lower irradiances, or nanosecond laser pulses, another thermodynamic paths are possible, which cross the liquid-gas transition curve while laser is still heating the target and the induced plasma. In this work, we explore the growth of nanoparticles in the plasma plume induced by nanosecond pulsed lasers as a function of the laser irra…

Synthesis of 3D dendritic gold nanostructures assisted by a templated growth process: Application at the detection of traces of molecules

2020

International audience; Complex architectures like 3D gold dendritic nanostructures were synthesized by an in situ templated growth method using a thin film of a block copolymer [polystyrene-b-poly(4-vinylpyridine)] deposited onto silicon substrates. The overall study has demonstrated the strong link between the morphology, size, and distribution of the structures and the synthetic physicochemical parameters, such as pH, reaction temperature, concentration, and nature of reactants. A nonequilibirum state of the medium has been required to create a fractal growth of the gold structures onto a prepatterned gold-seeded surface and has led to a better control of the structures' surface coverage…

Electrochemical formation of novel TiO2-ZnO hybrid nanostructures for photoelectrochemical water splitting applications

2020

[EN] In this study, hybrid ZnO-TiO2 nanostructures have been synthesised by means of a simple electrochemical anodisation of titanium and subsequently ZnO electrodeposition. The influence of Zn(NO3)(2) concentration and temperature during the electrodeposition process was evaluated. Different techniques were used to analyse the synthesised nanostructures, notably Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) with Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and Confocal Microscopy with Raman spectroscopy coupled with an Atomic Force Microscope. Photoelectrochemical water splitting tests were also performed at the hybrid nanostructures. According to the results, the photoelectrochemical…
