Evaluation of touchscreen assistive technology for visually disabled users

Touchscreen assistive technology is designed to support speech interaction between visually disabled people and mobile devices, allowing the use of a choreography of gestures to interact with a touch user interface. This paper presents the evaluation of VoiceOver, a screen reader in Apple Inc. products, made in the research project Visually impaired users touching the screen- A user evaluation of assistive technology together with six visually disabled test participants. Fostering Teacher-Student Interaction and Learner Autonomy by the I-TUTOR Maps

The paper analyses the use of an automatically generated map as a mediator; that map visually represents the study domain of a university course and fosters the co-activity between teachers and stu- dents. In our approach the role of the teacher is meant as a media- tor between the student and knowledge. The mediation (and not the transmission) highlights a process in which theres no deterministic rela- tion between teaching and learning. A Parallel Implementation of the Tree-Structured Self-Organizing Map

This paper presents how Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs)can be trained efficiently using several, simultaneously executing threads on a shared memory Symmetric MultiProcessing (SMP)computer. The training method is a batch version of the Tree-Structured Self-Organizing Map. We note that SMP type of parallel training is very useful for large data sets obtained from nature, the process industry or large document collections, since we do not encounter similar model size limitations as with hardware SOM implementations.

A game for emotional regulation in adolescents: The (body) interface device matters

The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of the type of interface device in the efficacy of a serious game that teaches emotional regulation (ER) strategies in a non-clinical sample of adolescents. We conducted a between-participants experiment in which participants (N = 61) played a frustration induction game, and then an ER game (a breathing strategy game), using one of three types of devices (computer, smartphone, and RGB-D camera). Frustration mood and perceived arousal were the main variables measured.
