Abstract A population genetic study using starch gel electrophoresis was performed on populations of several species of lymnaeid snails acting as intermediate hosts for Fasciola hepatica (Trematoda, Plathyhelminth). Lymnaea viatrix was collected in 16 sites from the Bolivian Northern Altiplano. L. cubensis were obtained in one site from Venezuela, one site from Guadeloupe, three sites from Cuba and one site from the Dominican Republic. L. truncatula were collected in one site from France, one from Portugal and one from Morocco. Multilocus enzyme electrophoresis (MEE) were determined for 282 snails at 18 loci. XAFS Studies of High-Valent Porphyrinato Manganèse Complexes with Ozone

We produce strong evidence of the interaction of ozone with a series of Manganese (III) porphyrinato complexes to form a well defined reactive intermediate. In the latter species, the Manganese atom which is formally in a tetravalent (IV) state, is (at least) hexacoordinated with the metal unambiguously lying in the basal plane of the four pyrrolic nitrogens of the porphyrin macrocycle. Substitution of Bromine or Chlorine axial ligands by ozonids is most likely to happen. This conclusion is also supported by XANES and EXAFS spectra recorded at the Chlorine K-edge which suggest that ozone may even form with chlorine a complex anion.

Fascioliasis by Fasciola hepatica is the vector-borne disease presenting the widest latitudinal, longitudinal and altitudinal distribution known. F. hepatica shows a great adaptation power to new environmental conditions which is the consequence of its own capacities together with the adaptation and colonization abilities of its specific vector hosts, freshwater snails of the family Lymnaeidae. The differentiation of the predominant cell types of the mucosal epithelium of the mammalian gastrointestinal tract is characterized by increasing amounts of an intermediate-sized filament (IF) protein designated cytokeratin (CK) 20 which is a major cellular protein of mature enterocytes and goblet cells. Here we report the isolation of the human gene encoding CK 20, its complete nucleotide sequence and the amino acid sequence deduced therefrom that identifies this polypeptide (mol. wt. 48553) as a member of the type I-CK subfamily. Intermediate filament composition was studied in the following endometrial stromal tumors: low-grade stromal sarcoma (endolymphatic stromal myosis), high-grade stromal sarcoma with an associated adenocarcinoma (collision tumor), diffuse clear cell stromal sarcoma and a mesodermal mixed tumor (carcinosarcoma). The tumor cells of the stromal tumors as well as the mesenchymal elements of the mixed mesodermal tumor were decorated exclusively with antibodies to vimentin.
