A Survey on how to Cross-Reference Web Information Sources

2015

International audience; The goal of giving information a well-defined meaning is currently shared by different research communities. Once information has a well-defined meaning, it can be searched and retrieved more effectively. Therefore, this paper is a survey about the methods that compare different textual information sources in order to determine whether they address a similar information or not. The improvement of the studied methods will eventually lead to increase the efficiency of documentary research. In order to achieve this goal, the first category of methods focuses on semantic measure definitions. A second category of methods focuses on paraphrase identification techniques, an…

Non-cooperative game theory based stepwise power tariff model using Monte-Carle simulation for agricultural consumers

2019

Abstract In the present study the concept of non-cooperative game theory is proposed in the retail electricity market for introducing stepwise power tariff model (SPT) for agricultural consumers. The objective of the paper is to increase the energy generation through green energy generation sources (GEGS), introduction of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, education of families, standard wiring and appliance efficiency in tariffs for agricultural consumers with non-cooperative game theory. Agricultural consumers are able to generate a huge amount of electricity through GEGS and are able to control the consumption in their own way, and the non-cooperative game theory is introduced. Energy con…

MELISSA: Laser ion source setup at CERN-MEDICIS facility. Blueprint

2019

The Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) has become an essential feature of many radioactive ion beam facilities worldwide since it offers an unmatched combination of efficiency and selectivity in the production of ion beams of many different chemical elements. In 2019, the laser ion source setup MELISSA is going to be established at the CERN-MEDICIS facility, based on the experience of the workgroup LARISSA of the University Mainz and CERN ISOLDE RILIS team. The purpose is to enhance the capability of the radioactive ion beam supply for end users by optimizing the yield and the purity of the final product. In this article, the blueprint of the laser ion source, as well as the key …

Application and development of ion-source technology for radiation-effects testing of electronics

2017

Abstract Studies of heavy-ion induced single event effect (SEE) on space electronics are necessary to verify the operation of the components in the harsh radiation environment. These studies are conducted by using high-energy heavy-ion beams to simulate the radiation effects in space. The ion beams are accelerated as so-called ion cocktails, containing several ion beam species with similar mass-to-charge ratio, covering a wide range of linear energy transfer (LET) values also present in space. The use of cocktails enables fast switching between beam species during testing. Production of these high-energy ion cocktails poses challenging requirements to the ion sources because in most laborat…

CERN’s Linac4 cesiated surface H− source

2017

Linac4 cesiated surface H− sources are routinely operated for the commissioning of the CERN’s Linac4 and on an ion source test stand. Stable current of 40-50 mA are achieved but the transmission through the LEBT of 80% was below expectations and triggered additional beam simulation and characterization. The H− beam profile is not Gaussian and emittance measurements are larger than simulation. The status of ongoing development work is described; 36 mA H− and 20 mA D− beams were produced with a 5.5 mm aperture cesiated surface ion source. The emittances measured at the test stand are presented. During a preliminary test, the Linac4 proton source delivered a total beam intensity of 70 mA (p, H…

Recent Advances in On-Line Laser Spectroscopy

2015

At radioactive ion beam facilities, particle accelerators are employed to induce nuclear reactions in order to provide short-lived nuclei for immediate study using a variety of spectroscopic techniques. These exotic isotopes/isomers are formed into a beam of fast ions, which are mass analyzed in-flight during transport to a chosen experimental set-up. As an additional filter, the atomic level structure provides a selective fingerprint, which distinguishes one element from another due to the varying numbers of protons and electrons. This property is exploited in laser ion sources whereby high power, pulsed tuneable laser radiation is used to excite and ionize the atom in order to enhance the…

Experimental evidence on photo-assisted O$^-$ ion production from Al$_2$O$_3$ cathode in cesium sputter negative ion source

2020

The production of negative ions in cesium sputter ion sources is generally considered to be a pure surface process. It has been recently proposed that ion pair production could explain the higher-than-expected beam currents extracted from these ion sources, therefore opening the door for laser-assisted enhancement of the negative ion yield. We have tested this hypothesis by measuring the effect of various pulsed diode lasers on the O$^-$ beam current produced from Al$_2$O$_3$ cathode of a cesium sputter ion source. It is expected that the ion pair production of O$^-$ requires populating the 5d electronic states of neutral cesium, thus implying that the process should be provoked only with s…

A status report of the multipurpose superconducting electron cyclotron resonance ion source

2007

Intense heavy ion beam production with electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion sources is a common requirement for many of the accelerators under construction in Europe and elsewhere. An average increase of about one order of magnitude per decade in the performance of ECR ion sources was obtained up to now since the time of pioneering experiment of R. Geller at CEA, Grenoble, and this trend is not deemed to get the saturation at least in the next decade, according to the increased availability of powerful magnets and microwave generators. Electron density above 1013 cm(-3) and very high current of multiply charged ions are expected with the use of 28 GHz microwave heating and of an adequate …

Breakdown transient study of plasma distributions in a 2.45 GHz hydrogen discharge

2015

Plasma distribution transients associated with the breakdown of a 2.45 GHz hydrogen discharge similar to high current microwave ion sources are studied by means of an ultra-fast frame image acquisition system in visible light range. Eight different plasma distributions have been studied by photographing the 2D projections of the discharge through a transparent plasma electrode. The temporal evolution of images in Balmer-alpha and Fulcher band wavelengths have been recorded associated to atomic and molecular excitation and ionization processes. Some unexpected plasma distributions transient behaviors during breakdown are reported.
