The current and incoming editors in chief present the articles of this current issue of Human Technology. Additionally, they discuss the human component of recent technological macrotrends and the journal’s editorial interests in responding to and exploring them. During Editor in Chief Pertti Hurme’s 3-year term, research reflecting a wide range of topics has been published in Human Technology. This online journal, proudly open-access since its beginning, and will continue to invite innovative and interesting manuscripts for open-access publishing under its new editor in chief, Jukka Jouhki.

Experimenting with the structured assessment dialogue in physics and mathematics classes

Teacher–student discussions are central in assessing students’ skills and knowledge. This study deals with formal, pre-planned discussions to assess students’ inquiry competences. The method is called the structured assessment dialogue (SAD) which combines formative and summative assessment. Six SAD sessions (4 lower secondary physics and 2 upper secondary math) were implemented at the end of inquiry lessons. The SAD sessions were video recorded and the discussions were analyzed using theory based categories and networks. Complex plant quality—microbiota–population interactions modulate the response of a specialist herbivore to the defence of its host plant

Many specialist herbivores have evolved strategies to cope with plant defences, with gut microbiota potentially participating to such adaptations. In this study, we assessed whether the history of plant use (population origin) and microbiota may interact with plant defence adaptation. We tested whether microbiota enhance the performance of Melitaea cinxia larvae on their host plant, Plantago lanceolata and increase their ability to cope the defensive compounds, iridoid glycosides (IGs). Tämän kirjallisuuskatsauksen tarkoituksena on esitellä ja arvioida viimeaikaisia tutkimuksia, jotka koskevat opettajien oppilaisiin liittyviä tunteita. Lisäksi tarkastelussa ovat englanninopettajien oppilaisiin liittyvät tunteet. Tämä katsaus on osa pro gradu -tutkielmaani Opettajankoulutuslaitoksella. Kuvaamme artikkelissamme yhteisössä toteutettavaa palveluoppimispedagogiikkaa (community engaged service learning pedagogy) Toronton yliopiston suomen kielen ohjelman ja Toronton Suomi-kodin eli suomenkielisen seniorikeskuksen välillä. Laadullisen tutkimuksen päätavoitteena oli pureutua siihen, miten opettaja ymmärtää ja rakentaa pedagogisen auktoriteettinsa koulun arjessa. Koska auktoriteettisuhde ei todennu ajatuksissa, puheessa ja kuvitelmissa, tutkin myös, miten auktoriteetti toimii ja saa oikeutuksen luokkatilanteessa. Pedagoginen auktoriteetti liitetään taustakirjallisuudessa toisaalta varsinaisen vallankäytön ulkopuoliseen, kasvatukseen liittyvään auktoriteettisuhteeseen, toisaalta korostetaan henkilösuhteen merkitystä auktoriteettisuhteen muotoutumisessa.
