Super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes with differential phase modulation for noncoherent mobile communication systems
2010
In this paper, we show how to design super-orthogonal space-time trellis codes (SOSTTCs) using the differential binary phase-shift keying (PSK) modulation for noncoherent communication systems, for which the knowledge of the channel state information (CSI) at the receiver is not necessary. Moreover, a new decoding algorithm with reduced decoding complexity is proposed. In all simulations, a geometric two-ring channel model is employed to evaluate the performance of the SOSTTCs. The simulation results show that the proposed decoding algorithm has the same decoding performance compared with the traditional decoding strategy, while the new algorithm reduces significantly the overall computing …
Uplink DPCCH Gating of Inactive UEs in Continuous Packet Connectivity Mode for HSUPA
2007
In order to further improve the packet performance in the UMTS FDD system, uplink dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) gating as a scheme is proposed in 3GPP under the work item "continuous connectivity for packet data users". In this paper, the uplink DPCCH gating concept is described and analyzed on both a qualitative and a quantitative level. And the system performance of different gating patterns used in the scheme was investigated by analytical prediction and system level simulations with different channel profiles. As shown, the selection of the gating pattern has a significant influence on the system performance, which is correlated with the uplink data transmission activity an…
Modeling and statistical characterization of wideband indoor radio propagation channels
2010
In this paper, we focus on the modeling of wideband single-input single-output (SISO) mobile fading channels for indoor propagation environments. The derived indoor reference channel model is based on a geometrical scattering model, which consists of an infinite number of scatterers uniformly distributed over the two-dimensional (2D) horizontal plane of a rectangular room. We derive analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF) of the angle of arrival (AOA), the power delay profile (PDP), and the frequency correlation function (FCF). An efficient sum-of-cisoids (SOC) channel simulator will be derived from the proposed non-realizable reference model. It is shown that the …
Filecasting for streaming content delivery in IP datacast over DVB-H systems
2008
In this paper we investigate the potential gain that can be obtained in DVB-H by delivering streaming content as a succession of time-constrained flies using Application Layer - Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) for improving the reception for mobile terminals. Compared to the conventional approach with link layer MPE-FEC, this technique allows to increase the robustness of the DVB-H transmission not only as a function of the capacity devoted for error repair (FEC overhead), but also as a function of the number of data bursts coded jointly ("file" or, source data block, size). The main drawback of this approach is an increase of the network latency proportional to the source block size, tha…
Performance evaluation of robust header compression protocol for low data rate networks
2013
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 2013 – Universitetet i Agder, Grimstad Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) have limited capacity due to properties of the physical medium for tactical operations. Several traffic types are typical for tactical applications, i.e. transmit frequent short IP packets (e.g., VoIP and friendly force tracking message). The RTP, TCP/UDP and IP headers comprise a significant overhead for these traffic types. Therefore, robust header compression (ROHC) protocol can useful to save the bandwidth for such applications. This thesis work is divided into two tasks. First one is the technological background of the robust header compression (ROHC) p…
An optimal energy efficient cooperative retransmission MAC scheme in wireless networks
2011
Accepted version of a paper in the book: 2011 2nd Wireless Communication, Vehicular Technology, Information Theory and Aerospace & Electronic Systems Technology (Wireless VITAE). Published version available from the IEEE: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/WIRELESSVITAE.2011.5940871 While the benefits of cooperative diversity have been well studied in the literature, cooperative MAC protocol design has also attracted much attention recently. In the single-relay Cooperative Automatic Repeat reQuest (C-ARQ) protocol, the best relay node is selected in a distributed manner by relays using different backoff time before packet retransmission. However, this relay selection scheme does not work efficiently…
Morse Description and Geometric Encoding of Digital Elevation Maps
2004
Two complementary geometric structures for the topographic representation of an image are developed in this work. The first one computes a description of the Morse-topological structure of the image, while the second one computes a simplified version of its drainage structure. The topographic significance of the Morse and drainage structures of digital elevation maps (DEMs) suggests that they can been used as the basis of an efficient encoding scheme. As an application, we combine this geometric representation with an interpolation algorithm and lossless data compression schemes to develop a compression scheme for DEMs. This algorithm achieves high compression while controlling the maximum …

We present some results concerning the representation of unconditionally convergent multipliers, including a reformulation of a conjecture of Balazs and Stoeva.
Corruption in banks: A bibliometric review and agenda
2020
Abstract This paper is a bibliometric review of 819 articles, between 1969 and 2019, on corruption in banks. We identified six research streams: (1) the determinants of banks’ lending corruption; (2) the impact of corruption on banks’ lending and operational risk; (3) the impact of bank corruption on firms; (4) the impact of political connections on bank corruption; (5) the impact of corporate governance and regulations on bank corruption; and (6) the manipulation of the inter-bank offered rate. We recommend an anti-corruption architecture system and an extension in theoretical frameworks related to corruption in banks. We propose 20 future research questions.
