Direct analysis in real-time high-resolution mass spectrometry as a valuable tool for polyphenols profiling in olive oil

2018

A fast and reliable method to characterize the polyphenolic compound profiles in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) has been developed using direct analysis in real time (DART) and linear ion-trap Orbitrap mass spectrometry (LTQ-Orbitrap-MS). Hydroalcoholic extraction increased speed and reduced matrix effects, and DART-MS/MS ensured accurate analysis. Characterization of polyphenol fingerprinting in EVOO samples takes 2 min. This method exhibited proper linearity (R2 ≥ 0.99) in the range of 5–2500 μg g−1, limit of detection (LOD) of 1.5 μg g−1 (signal-to noise S/N = 3), and limits of quantitation (LOQs) of 5 μg g−1 (S/N = 10) for resveratrol (a polyphenol not detected in olive oil). Six spiked …

Cargo-Cult Containerization : A Critical View of Containers in Modern Software Development

2022

Software is increasingly developed and deployed using containers. While the concept of a container is conceptually straightforward, there are various issues to be considered while using them, ranging from technical details inside containers to the orchestration of containers that jointly form a meaningful application. In recent years, the use of containers has become so prevalent that developers have a tendency to resort to cargo-cult containerization - ritual adherence to the use of containers just because so many others are doing the same thing. In this paper, we study advantages and downsides of containers in modern-day software development. We foresee the use of containers to spread int…

Consumption values and mobile banking services : understanding the urban-rural dichotomy in a developing economy

2021

PurposeThis study develops a theoretical model of consumption values regarding the technology adoption of mobile banking (m-banking) services, with the financial service sector as the empirical context. This study aims to evaluate whether consumption values influence trust and intention. Furthermore, the authors explore how the consumer type (i.e. urban vs rural) differs in consumption values regarding adopting m-banking services.Design/methodology/approachThe data for this study were gathered from 246 responses collected from individuals living in a country with a developing market, using a survey instrument. The six study hypotheses were tested using partial least squares structural equat…

Analyzing Stakeholder Diversity in G2G Efforts: Combining Descriptive Stakeholder Theory and Dialectic Process Theory

2008

Author's version of an article published in e-Service Journal, 6 (2), 3-23. Previous research indicates that the benefits of e-government initiatives are slower to realize than initially expected. This has partly been ascribed to the particularly complex settings of e-government projects, consisting of a variety of stakeholders promoting different and often conflicting objectives. Yet few studies have explicitly addressed the inherent challenges of this diversity. This study presents an analytical approach for investigating contradictory stakeholder interests by combining descriptive stakeholder theory and dialectic process theory. Descriptive stakeholder theory is concerned with why some s…

Institutional Dynamics in International Organizations: Lessons from the Recruitment Procedures of the European External Action Service

2014

Author's version of an article in the journal: Organization Studies. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0170840614544558 This article examines how organizational designs develop by proposing a novel theoretical framework that views organizational change as resulting from a dialectic process between interpretive agents. The key claim is that existing formal procedures (such as recruitment processes, our empirical focal point) are subject to involved actors’ interpretive efforts. This results in a bargaining situation based on the interpretations of the principal actors, which may induce a feedback loop whereby the original procedures are amended. The empirical re…

River Contracts for Innovation in Territorial Governance

2016

Emerged in France in 1980s as agreements oriented to the requalification of rivers and lakes, river contracts represent an important outcome of the decentralization process, developed in Europe in reply to the growing institutional fragmentation. In this scenario, rivers have become a dialectic arena in which the exploitation and management of water resources came to terms with environmental instances, and offered the breeding ground for concerted efforts between policy makers, stakeholders and communities. In this chapter, the analysis is focused on the river contract model and the related set of instruments capable of supporting concerted and participatory management processes both with r…

Gluten-Free Diet Reduces Symptoms, Particularly Diarrhea, in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Antigliadin IgG

2021

Background & Aims Many patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) perceive that their symptoms are triggered by wheat-containing foods. We assessed symptoms and gastrointestinal transit before and after a gluten-free diet (GFD) in unselected patients with IBS and investigated biomarkers associated with symptoms. Methods We performed a prospective study of 50 patients with IBS (ROME III, all subtypes), with and without serologic reactivity to gluten (antigliadin IgG and IgA), and 25 healthy subjects (controls) at a university hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, between 2012 and 2016. Gastrointestinal transit, gut symptoms, anxiety, depression, somatization, dietary habits, and microbiot…

Street law alla rovescia: sperimentazioni di educazione clinico-legale critica

2021

The "upside-down street law", as I call the educational experiments that I have conducted over the course of several years, intends to challenge the assumption of the vertical monodirectionality of knowledge. How? Creating a more complex field of circulation and production of knowledge, in which the worn-out spatial metaphors of high and low culture, as well as of what is counted inside or outside the legitimate learning space, are questioned. This way of teaching law starts from an analysis of the power relations present in a certain context. And it proposes educational interventions that deconstruct these relationships by reassembling them otherwise. In the article are told some this expe…

The seri…

Electric and dielectric properties of nanostructured stoichiometric and excess-iron Ni–Zn ferrites

2013

In this paper, we report a study of the effect of excess iron on structural, microstructural, electric and dielectric properties of the nanostructured Ni–Zn ferrites Ni1−xZnxFe2+zO4−δ of different compositions with x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1 and z = 0, 0.1. The structural and microstructural properties are estimated from x-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy (AFM) data. The average grain size, evaluated from AFM topographical analysis, is found to be below 70 nm. The samples exhibit low values of dielectric constant and dielectric loss and a high resistivity. Contrary to earlier conclusions regarding microstructured Ni–Zn ferrites, in nanostructured Ni–Zn ferrites sintered at relativel…
