Behavioral and Cortical Correlates of Self-Suppression, Anticipation, and Ambivalence in Rat Tickling.
2019
The relationship between tickling, sensation, and laughter is complex. Tickling or its mere anticipation makes us laugh, but not when we self-tickle. We previously showed rat somatosensory cortex drives tickling-evoked vocalizations and now investigated self-tickle suppression and tickle anticipation. We recorded somatosensory cortex activity while tickling and touching rats and while rats touched themselves. Allo-touch and tickling evoked somatotopic cortical excitation and vocalizations. Self-touch induced wide-ranging inhibition and vocalization suppression. Self-touch also suppressed vocalizations and cortical responses evoked by allo-touch or cortical microstimulation. We suggest a glo…
Dopamine, Noradrenaline and Serotonin Receptor Densities in the Striatum of Hemiparkinsonian Rats following Botulinum Neurotoxin-A Injection.
2017
Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by a degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) that causes a dopamine (DA) deficit in the caudate-putamen (CPu) accompanied by compensatory changes in other neurotransmitter systems. These changes result in severe motor and non-motor symptoms. To disclose the role of various receptor binding sites for DA, noradrenaline, and serotonin in the hemiparkinsonian (hemi-PD) rat model induced by unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) injection, the densities of D1, D2/D3, α1, α2, and 5HT2A receptors were longitudinally visualized and measured in the CPu of hemi-PD rats by quantitative in vitro receptor autorad…
miRNAs and sports: tracking training status and potentially confounding diagnoses.
2016
Background The dependency of miRNA abundance from physiological processes such as exercises remains partially understood. We set out to analyze the effect of physical exercises on miRNA profiles in blood and plasma of endurance and strength athletes in a systematic manner and correlated differentially abundant miRNAs in athletes to disease miRNAs biomarkers towards a better understanding of how physical exercise may confound disease diagnosis by miRNAs. Methods We profiled blood and plasma of 29 athletes before and after exercise. With four samples analyzed for each individual we analyzed 116 full miRNomes. The study set-up enabled paired analyses of individuals. Affected miRNAs were invest…
Opposite effects of dopamine on the mechanical activity of circular and longitudinal muscle of human colon.
2020
Background Because dopamine (DA) has gained increasing evidence as modulator of gut motility, we aimed to characterize dopaminergic response in human colon, evaluating function and distribution of dopamine receptors in circular vs longitudinal muscle strips. Methods Mechanical responses to DA and dopaminergic agonists on slow phasic contractions and on basal tone were examined in vitro as changes in isometric tension. RT-PCR was used to reveal the distribution of dopaminergic receptors. Key results In spontaneous active circular muscle, DA induced an increase in the amplitude of slow phasic contractions and of the basal tone, via activation of D1-like receptors. DA contractile responses wer…
Lysosomal acid lipase deficiency: Expanding differential diagnosis.
2016
The differential diagnoses for metabolic liver diseases may be challenging in clinical settings, which represents a critical issue for disorders such as lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D). LAL-D is caused by deficient activity of the LAL enzyme, resulting in the accumulation of cholesteryl esters and triglycerides throughout the body, predominately in the liver, spleen, gastrointestinal tract, and blood vessel walls. LAL-D is a progressive, multi-organ disease with early mortality and significant morbidity characterized by a combination of hepatic dysfunction and dyslipidemia. Evidence suggests LAL-D may be substantially underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, which is critical given that dis…
Hemisphere-dependent endocannabinoid system activity in prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of the Flinders Sensitive Line rodent model of depression
2019
Altered endocannabinoid (eCB) signaling is suggested as an important contributor to the pathophysiology of depression. To further elucidate this, we conducted a study using a genetic rat model of depression, the Flinders Sensitive Line (FSL), and their controls, the Flinders Resistant Line (FRL) rats. Plasma, right and left prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus were isolated from FSL and FRL rats. We analyzed each region for the eCB anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) levels by liquid chromatography/multiple reaction monitoring (LC/MRM), mRNA and protein levels of the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R), fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacyl glycerol lipase (MAGL) by rea…
Damage detection of a hybrid composite laminate aluminum/glass under quasi-static and fatigue loadings by acoustic emission technique
2019
Abstract This paper deals with the characterization by Acoustic Emission technique of damages occurring in a hybrid laminate aluminium/glass during quasi-static and fatigue tests. Indeed, hybrid laminates materials metal/composites are more and more considered in structure, automotive and aerospace designs because of their good mechanical performances and lightness. To understand their damages characteristics, several types of laminates (fiber orientations, number of folds, presence or not of an aluminium sheet) have been tested. The acoustic emission analysis has been realized using statistical multi-parameters methods of data clustering: combination of Principal Components Analysis (PCA) …

Aromatic and proteomic analyses corroborate the distinction between Mediterranean landraces and modern varieties of durum wheat
2016
AbstractIn this paper volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from durum wheat cultivars and landraces were analyzed using PTR-TOF-MS. The aim was to characterize the VOC’s profile of the wholemeal flour and of the kernel to find out if any VOCs were specific to varieties and sample matrices. The VOC data is accompanied by SDS-PAGE analyses of the storage proteins (gliadins and glutenins). Statistical analyses was carried out both on the signals obtained by MS and on the protein profiles. The difference between the VOC profile of two cultivars or two preparations of the same sample - matrices, in this case kernel vs wholemeal flour - can be very subtle; the high resolution of PTR-TOF-MS - down to…
Practical Socioeducational to improve School Coexistence. And Experience in a center of unique educational action(Valencia, Spain
2017
[EN] Currently, problems related with coexistence, indiscipline, school violence and disruptive behavior in schools, make worry professionals, students, families and neighborhood. In this way, society at large and the educational community in particular are claiming over time about teaching solutions to mend this situation. In this paper, framed in a broader research, we present the results of application four educational strategies, in a CAES of Valencia (Spain). That strategies was classroom assembly, the reader patronage, game classroom, and art and Human rights. The project was implemented during 2014-2015 academic year, with 80 boys and girls of 4-11 age old. To check the improvement o…
