Functional linear models for the analysis of similarity of waveforms

In seismology methods based on waveform similarity analysis are adopted to identify sequences of events characterized by similar fault mechanism and prop- agation pattern. Seismic waves can be considered as spatially interdependent three dimensional curves depending on time and the waveform similarity analysis can be configured as a functional clustering approach, on the basis of which the member- ship is assessed by the shape of the temporal patterns. COMMUNITY DETECTION IN TRIPARTITE NETWORKS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENT MOBILITY FLOWS

The purpose of this study is to explore how the multimode network approach can be used to analyse network patterns derived from student mobility flows. We define a tripartite network based on a three-mode data structure, consisting of Italian provinces of residence, universities and fields of study, with student exchanges representing the links between them. A comparison of algorithms for detecting communities from tripartite networks based on modularity optimization is provided, revealing relevant information about the phenomenon under analysis over time. The findings are applied to a real dataset containing micro-level longitudinal information on Italian university students’ careers.

Suolistomikrobiston yhteys kardiometabolisten sairauksien riskitekijöihin ylipainoisilla tutkittavilla

Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa selvitettiin suolistomikrobiston koostumuksen yhteyksiä kardiometabolisten sairauksien riskitekijöihin ylipainoisilla naisilla. Myös kuuden viikon kestävyysharjoittelun vaikutuksia tarkasteltiin tutkittavien suolistomikrobiston koostumukseen ja kardiometabolisiin riskitekijöihin. Lopuksi tarkasteltiin vielä muuttujien muutosten välisiä yhteyksiä. Tässä työssä on käytetty Munukan ym. (2018) tutkimuksen aineistoa. Tutkimukseen osallistui 15 ylipainoista keskimäärin 36,8-vuotiasta naista, jotka olivat sedentaarisia ja BMI oli yli 27,5 (kg/m²). Synchronizing Two Superconducting Qubits through a Dissipating Resonator

A system consisting of two qubits and a resonator is considered in the presence of different sources of noise, bringing to light the possibility of making the two qubits evolve in a synchronized way. A direct qubit–qubit interaction turns out to be a crucial ingredient, as well as the dissipation processes involving the resonator. The detrimental role of the local dephasing of the qubits is also taken into account.
Ray optics behavior of flux avalanche propagation in superconducting films

Experimental evidence of wave properties of dendritic flux avalanches in superconducting films is reported. Using magneto-optical imaging the propagation of dendrites across boundaries between a bare NbN film and areas coated by a Cu layer was visualized, and it was found that the propagation is refracted in full quantitative agreement with Snell's law. For the studied film of 170 nm thickness and a $0.9\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$ thick metal layer, the refractive index was close to $n=1.4$.
