Prevention of feeding tube dislodgement with the Wiesbaden rein: a case series.

We describe initial experience with the use of a new fixation method (Wiesbaden rein), which has been developed to prevent dislodgement of feeding tubes in the gastrointestinal tract. The Wiesbaden rein has been used in three patients without complication. In none of the patients was dislodgement or malfunction of the feeding tube observed. Therefore, the use of the Wiesbaden rein might prevent dislodgement of feeding tubes. Clinical trials are required before this new method can be recommended for general use.

The key motivator of this review was to update and expand the finding reported by a previous narrative review published in 2011. The literature search included all documents from the following databases: Medline, Scopus, CINAHL, OVID and Google Scholar. Since 1984 the law concerning safety belts has been implemented; this paper deals with the findings in 386 victims of motor accidents who were x-rayed between 1981 and 1989. Minor injuries have been ignored. The number of passengers wearing belts increased by 30% after 1984. The number of passenger injuries did not decrease. Injuries directly caused by the belts included a small number of fractures of clavicles, the sternum and ribs and one pelvic fracture, one serious abdominal injury with tearing of the mesenteric artery and one ruptured spleen. Through refractive surgery, it is now possible to correct various ametropias using new techniques such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). We hypothesized that patients submitting to PRK show higher peripheral thresholds attributable to poorer retinal quality than normal patients. However, no difference were found when comparing glaucoma with PRK patients. Thus, early glaucoma following PRK may be masked by the previous surgery.

PURPOSE. Retropupillary implantation of an iris claw lens offers a rapid and atraumatic approach for rehabilitation of aphakic eyes. The difficulty in the implantation process arises because of the possibility of losing the intraocular lens (IOL) into the vitreous cavity and the need to change the hand holding the forceps during the enclavation. M ETHODS. The new forceps design radically changes the method of grasping an IOL. It contains an extendable supporting plate with a hook-like end.
