Clinical Experiences with Clamp Electrodes in Fetal Scalp for Simultaneous pO2 and ECG — Registration

The development of a scalp electrode for continuous measurement of fetal mean tissue-PO2 and simultaneous registration of ECG respectively fetal heart rate has been described previously (1). The electrode mechanics and electronic equipment must be adapted to the various demands of the birth process and the labor room environment. The technical results are not yet refined, when unfavorable conditions prevail, artifacts may be anticipated. A brief review of the proceedings in electrode clamp measurements should be presented.

A Control Algorithm for Active/Passive Hydraulic Winches Used in Active Heave Compensation

Abstract The most common active heave compensated offshore cranes have hydraulic winch systems. This paper investigates an active/passive hydraulic winch system with variable-displacement motors and variable-displacement pumps. The paper addresses the challenges when the active motors are set with a low displacement. The active motor displacement is shown to have significant impact on the dynamics of the closed loop hydraulic system. Magnetic field driven micro-convection in the Hele-Shaw cell

AbstractMicro-convection caused by ponderomotive forces of the self-magnetic field of a magnetic fluid in the Hele-Shaw cell under the action of a vertical homogeneous magnetic field is studied both experimentally and numerically. It is shown that a non-potential magnetic force at magnetic Rayleigh numbers greater than the critical value causes fingering at the interface between the miscible magnetic and non-magnetic fluids. The threshold value of the magnetic Rayleigh number depends on the smearing of the interface between fluids. Healthcare workers (HCWs) were exposed to a high risk of occupational infection, partially due to insufficient personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies. This study aimed to describe the practices, availability, training, confidence in PPE use and the adverse effects due to extended PPE use, as reported by HCWs in Italy. Frequency conversion of propagating surface plasmon polaritons by organic molecules

We demonstrate frequency conversion of surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) by utilizing the coupling between organic dye molecules and SPP. Launching of SPPs into a plasmonic waveguide is done in two ways: by optically excited molecules and by quantum dots (QDs). QDs are demonstrated to overcome the major problem of bleaching occurring with molecules. The SPP propagates tens of micrometers and clear frequency conversion is observed in the SPP spectrum after passing an area of converter molecules. The use of molecules and QDs as elements of all-plasmonic devices has the potential for high integration and use of self-assembly in fabrication. Peer reviewed

Electromagnetic Full-Wave Simulation of Partial Discharge Detection in High Voltage AC Cables

Partial discharge (PD) activity in the insulation system of an electrical equipment can determine the failure of the whole apparatus. PD sensors are widely used in high-voltage electrical systems as the main elements of a detecting system oriented to real time monitoring. Recently, non-invasive sensors have been proposed in industrial applications for cable and other sensitive electrical parts: they are based both on capacitive and on the electromagnetic radiating coupling. In order to assess the real performance of a new sensor produced by a high voltage AC cables manufacturer, the paper proposes electromagnetic fullwave simulation results.
