Stimuli-responsive hybrid materials: breathing in magnetic layered double hydroxides induced by a thermoresponsive molecule
2014
[EN] A hybrid magnetic multilayer material of micrometric size, with highly crystalline hexagonal crystals consisting of CoAl-LDH ferromagnetic layers intercalated with thermoresponsive 4-(4-anilinophenylazo)benzenesulfonate (AO5) molecules diluted (ratio 9 : 1) with a flexible sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) surfactant has been obtained. The resulting material exhibits thermochromism attributable to the isomerization between the azo (prevalent at room temperature) and the hydrazone (favoured at higher temperatures) tautomers, leading to a thermomechanical response. In fact, these crystals exhibited thermally induced motion triggering remarkable changes in the crystal morphology and volume. In…
Phase separated Cu@Fe3O4 heterodimer nanoparticles from organometallic reactants
2011
Cu@Fe3O4 heteroparticles with distinct morphologies were synthesized from organometallic reactants. The shape of the magnetic domains could be controlled by the solvent and reaction conditions. They display magnetic and optical properties that are useful for simultaneous magnetic and optical detection. After functionalization, the Cu@Fe3O4 heterodimers become water soluble. The morphology, structure, magnetic and optical properties of the as-synthesized heterodimer nanoparticles were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), mossbauer spectroscopy, superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry, and dark field imaging. A special a…
Molecular Magnetic Materials from Polyoxometalates
1994
The significance of polyoxometalates in the field of molecular magnetism is discussed. We show that this kind of inorganic complexes provides remarkable examples for the study of the exchange interactions in clusters. On the other hand, we examine the possibility of using these metal oxide anions as magnetic components of molecular materials containing organic tetrathiafulvalenes as electron donor molecules.
The Missing Link in the Magnetism of Hybrid Cobalt Layered Hydroxides: The Odd‐Even Effect of the Organic Spacer
2021
A dramatic change in the magnetic behaviour, which solely depends on the parity of the organic linker molecules, has been found in a family of layered CoII hydroxides covalently functionalized with dicarboxylic molecules. These layered hybrid materials have been synthesized at room temperature using a one-pot procedure through the epoxide route. While hybrids connected by odd alkyl chains exhibit coercive fields (Hc) below ca. 3500 Oe and show spontaneous magnetization at temperatures (TM) below 20 K, hybrids functionalized with even alkyl chains behave as hard magnets with Hc>5500 Oe and display a TM higher than 55 K. This intriguing behaviour was studied by density functional theory with …
Surface Chemistry Controls Magnetism in Cobalt Nanoclusters
2016
Magnetic properties of Co13 and Co55 nanoclusters, passivated by surface ligand shells that exhibit varying electronic interactions with the metal, are studied using density functional theory. The calculations show that the chemical nature of the bond between the ligand and the metal core (X-type or L-type) impacts the total magnetic moment of Co nanoclusters dramatically. Furthermore, the chemical identity of the ligand within each binding motif then provides a fine handle on the exhibited magnetic moment of the cluster. Thus, ligand shell chemistry is predicted to not only stabilize Co nanoclusters, but provide a powerful approach to control their magnetic properties, which combined enabl…
Geostatistical 3-dimensional integration of measurements of soil magnetic susceptibility.
2010
In soil magnetometry, two types of measurements are usually performed. The first type is measurements performed on the soil surface, frequently using an MS2D sensor. The second type includes measurements of magnetic susceptibility carried out in the soil profile, usually to a depth of about 30 cm. Up to now, such measurement results were analyzed separately. However, it is possible and advantageous to integrate these two types of measurements. The goal of the study was to integrate measurements of magnetic susceptibility performed on the soil surface and in the soil profile. More specifically, the goal was to obtain 3-dimensional spatial distributions of magnetic susceptibility of the topso…
Seasonal Distribution and Movement of the Invasive Pest Delottococcus aberiae (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) Within Citrus Tree: Implications for Its In…
2018
[EN] Delottococcus aberiae (De Lotto) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is the most recent species of mealybug introduced to Spain that is affecting citrus. The feeding behavior of D. aberiae causes severe direct damage to citrus fruits, distorting their shape and/or causing reduction in size. There is no information available regarding its distribution within the citrus trees. The main objective of this study was to describe the seasonal distribution of D. aberiae within citrus trees and its migration patterns on the plants. Ten citrus orchards from eastern Spain were periodically sampled during 3 yr. In each orchard, the mealybug was sampled in different infested strata (canopy, trunk, and soil…
A moderate diet restriction during pregnancy alters the levels of endocannabinoids and endocannabinoid-related lipids in the hypothalamus, hippocampu…
2017
Existe para su consulta material suplementario aportado por el editor. Undernutrition during pregnancy has been associated to increased vulnerability to develop metabolic and behavior alterations later in life. The endocannabinoid system might play an important role in these processes. Therefore, we investigated the effects of a moderate maternal calorie-restricted diet on the levels of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG), arachidonic acid (AA) and the N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) anandamide (AEA), oleoylethanolamide (OEA) and palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) in the brain of newborn rat offspring. We focused on brain structures involved in metabolism, feeding behavior, as well as em…

2020
Inhibidor d'AKT; Càncer avançat; Fase I Inhibidor de AKT; Cáncer avanzado; Fase I AKT inhibitor; Advanced cancer; Phase I Background This phase Ib study evaluated the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy of the oral AKT inhibitor ipatasertib and chemotherapy or hormonal therapy in patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumors to determine combined dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs), maximum tolerated dose, and recommended phase II doses and schedules. Patients and methods The clinical study comprised four combination treatment arms: arm A (with docetaxel), arm B [with mFOLFOX6 (modified leucovorin, 5-fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin)], arm C (with paclitaxel), and …
Comparison of body mass index (BMI) with the CUN-BAE body adiposity estimator in the prediction of hypertension and type 2 diabetes
2016
BACKGROUND: Obesity is a world-wide epidemic whose prevalence is underestimated by BMI measurements, but CUN-BAE (Clínica Universidad de Navarra - Body Adiposity Estimator) estimates the percentage of body fat (BF) while incorporating information on sex and age, thus giving a better match. Our aim is to compare the BMI and CUN-BAE in determining the population attributable fraction (AFp) for obesity as a cause of chronic diseases. METHODS: We calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient between BMI and CUN-BAE, the Kappa index and the internal validity of the BMI. The risks of arterial hypertension (AHT) and diabetes mellitus (DM) and the AFp for obesity were assessed using both the BMI a…
