Beam current oscillations driven by cyclotron instabilities in a minimum-Belectron cyclotron resonance ion source plasma

2014

Experimental observation of cyclotron instabilities in a minimum-B confined electron cyclotron resonance ion source plasma is reported. The instabilities are associated with strong microwave emission and a burst of energetic electrons escaping the plasma, and explain the periodic ms-scale oscillation of the extracted beam currents. Such non-linear effects are detrimental for the confinement of highly charged ions due to plasma perturbations at shorter periodic intervals in comparison with their production time. It is shown that the repetition rate of the periodic instabilities in oxygen plasmas increases with increasing magnetic field strength and microwave power and decreases with increasi…

Cantor Dust Zone Plates

2013

In this paper we use the Cantor Dust to design zone plates based on a two-dimensional fractal for the first time. The pupil function that defines the coined Cantor Dust Zone Plates (CDZPs) can be written as a combination of rectangle functions. Thus CDZPs can be considered as photon sieves with rectangular holes. The axial irradiances produced by CDZPs of different fractal orders are obtained analitically and experimentally, analyzing the influence of the fractality. The transverse irradiance patterns generated by this kind of zone plates has been also investigated.

Direct measurement of the radiative tail in electron scattering from atomic nuclei

1985

We have made a direct measurement of the radiative tail of the eleastic peak from several tungsten targets. The measured data have been compared to the results expected for both internal and external bremsstrahlung contributions. Even for targets as thick as 4% of a radiation length of tungsten, agreement between the results of the experiment and the predictions of the theory has been found to be unexpectedly good.

High-visibility interference fringes with femtosecond laser radiation.

2009

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an interferometer for femtosecond pulses with spectral bandwidth about 100 nm. The scheme is based on a Michelson interferometer with a dispersion compensating module. A diffractive lens serves the purpose of equalizing the optical-path-length difference for a wide range of frequencies. In this way, it is possible to register high-contrast interference fringes with micrometric resolution over the whole area of a commercial CCD sensor for broadband femtosecond pulses.

Field analysis of the magnetic systems for tubular linear reluctance motors

2005

We report a study of tubular linear reluctance motors (TLRMs) in various types of magnetic circuits. We carried out magnetic field analyses and calculated integral parameters of the field. We also determined static characteristics and electromagnetic parameters of the motor. We found good agreement between our calculations and tests of the motor with sinusoidal excitation.

Time Of Flight measurements via two LiDAR systems with SiPM and APD

2016

In this paper, we present an experimental comparison of two LiDAR systems, employing the SiPM and the APD as photodetectors, in terms of TOF measurements differing for the distance of the target and at different intensities of ambient light. The use of the APD represents the conventional approach, while the implementation of the SiPM is innovative. The performed measurements achieved very promising results, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of our LiDAR based on SiPM.

In vitro power profiles of multifocal simultaneous vision contact lenses.

2013

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the power profile of multifocal contact lenses (CLs) using a new technology based on quantitative deflectometry. Methods The Nimo TR1504 was used to analyze the power distribution of multifocal CLs. The CLs under study were: Air Optix Aqua Multifocal Low, Medium and High Addition and Focus Progressives. Three lenses of each model were considered. Results All multifocal CLs showed a power profile characterized by a change toward more positive power values when aperture sizes become smaller. The near refractive addition of the lenses under study was +2.61 D, +1.44 D, +1.30 D and +0.30 D for the Focus Progressives, the Air Optix Aqua Multifocal High, Medium Add and…

Modulated magnetic structures of ErPb3, HoPb3, ErTl3 and HoTl3

1981

Neutron diffraction experiments have been carried out on the magnetically ordered phases of ErPb3, HoPb3, ErTl3 and HoTl3. The magnetic moments were found to be sinusoidally modulated with a propagation vector of (0, 0.2, 0.5) for the Pb-compounds and (0.38, 0.38, 0.16) for the Tl-compounds.

Superresolution digital holographic microscopy for three-dimensional samples.

2009

An approach that allows superresolution imaging of three-dimensional (3-D) samples by numerical refocusing is presented in the field of digital holographic microscopy. Based on the object's spectrum shift produced by tilted illumination, we present a time multiplexing superresolved approach to overcome the Abbe's diffraction limit. The proposed approach uses a microscope in a Mach-Zehnder interferometric architecture with the particularity that the output plane does not coincide with the image plane. Thus, a set of off-axis non-image plane holograms are sequentially recorded for every tilted beam used in the illumination stage. After that and by using simple digital post-processing and nume…
