In vitro fibrillogenesis of the amyloid beta 1-42 peptide: cholesterol potentiation and aspirin inhibition.

2002

Understanding the formation of extracellular amyloid neurofibrillar bundles/senile plaques and their role in the development of Alzheimer's disease is of considerable interest to neuroscientists and clinicians. Major components of the extracellular neurofibrillar bundles are polymerized amyloid beta (Abeta) peptides (1-40), (1-42) and (1-43), derived in vivo from the soluble amyloid precursor protein (sAPP) by proteolytic (beta- and gamma-secretase) cleavage. The Abeta(1-42) peptide is widely considered to be of greatest significance in relation to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. A well-defined ultrastructural characteristic within Alzheimer dense plaques is the presence of helical…

Semi-physiologic model validation and bioequivalence trials simulation to select the best analyte for acetylsalicylic acid

2015

Abstract The objective of this paper is to apply a previously developed semi-physiologic pharmacokinetic model implemented in NONMEM to simulate bioequivalence trials (BE) of acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) in order to validate the model performance against ASA human experimental data. ASA is a drug with first-pass hepatic and intestinal metabolism following Michaelis–Menten kinetics that leads to the formation of two main metabolites in two generations (first and second generation metabolites). The first aim was to adapt the semi-physiological model for ASA in NOMMEN using ASA pharmacokinetic parameters from literature, showing its sequential metabolism. The second aim was to validate this mod…

A Supramolecularly-Caged Ionic Iridium(III) Complex Yielding Bright and Very Stable Solid-State Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells

2008

A new iridium(III) complex showing intramolecular interligand pi-stacking has been synthesized and used to improve the stability of single-component, solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC) devices. The pi-stacking results in the formation of a very stable supramolecularly caged complex. LECs using this complex show extraordinary stabilities (estimated lifetime of 600 h) and luminance values (average luminance of 230 cd m-2) indicating the path toward stable ionic complexes for use in LECs reaching stabilities required for practical applications.

Re-giardinieri e Natura selvaggia. Implicazioni politico-simboliche dello sradicamento, taglio e trasporto in città degli alberi nella Mesopotamia de…

2022

In Sumerian mythological literature, as in coeval Akkadian one, between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 2nd millennium, the ruler, foremost among them Gilgameš, on several occasions uproots and/or cuts down trees. These trees should be understood as elements of a wider ‘Wilderness’, with which they share a powerful and ambiguous ontological otherness compared to the city and, more generally, to the land of Sumer. The action of the king on the tree, like that of a farmer or gardener, with the consequent realization of ‘artefacts’, allows, through a cultural organization of the power of the tree, the renewal of the relationship, always subject to crisis, between the human communit…

Tra diritto e politica: Andrea da Isernia e la Lectura al Liber Augustalis

2022

The essay analyzes and describes the commentary apparatus to the Liber Augustalis and the exegetical activity around the legislative work of Frederick II. Starting from the apparatus vetus, with the glosses of Andrea Bonello and of the mysterious glossator G., up to the ordinary gloss of Marino da Caramanico, the essay focuses mainly on the work of Andrea da Isernia. The Lectura Peregrina, composed at the beginning of the fourteenth century, is examined both in its content and in the various editorial forms in which it was published. Beginning with the editio princeps of 1472, by Sixtus Riessinger, the Lectura Peregrina underwent various editorial transformations until it was standardized a…

I Vaticana fragmenta a due secoli dalla riscoperta

2022

Two centuries have passed since the palimpsest that transmits a Roman legal work known as the Vaticana fragmenta was rediscovered by Angelo Mai in the Vatican Apostolic Library in Rome. This paper reviews the main issues relating to this work and suggests some reasons why a new edition of the text is desirable.
