Fibre Bragg gratings tuned and chirped using magnetic fields

1997

The authors report on the use of magnetic fields in conjunction with magnetostrictive materials for tuning and chirping optical fibre Bragg gratings. The Bragg wavelength shifts as a consequence of the strain induced in the fibre by a magnetostrictive rod when a magnetic field is applied. A tuning range of 1.1 nm has been achieved by a magnetic field of 103 mT and the grating has been chirped by applying non-uniform magnetic fields.

Abstract 766: Suppression of gefitinib-induced EMT in EGFR mutant NSCLC preferentially selects for acquired T790M

2015

Abstract Activating EGFR mutations in non-small lung cancer (NSCLC) confer sensitivity to reversible EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), including gefitinib and erlotinib. Despite promising initial response acquired resistance develops mediated by the emergence of the secondary T790M mutation or by focal amplification of MET. An epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is clinically linked to NSCLCs with acquired EGFR TKI resistance. The exact mechanisms of EGFR TKI resistance with EMT phenotype remain elusive; therefore, we attempted to develop a strategy to prevent the emergence of EGFR TKI resistance with EMT phenotype. In order to mimic the development of acquired EGFR TKI resista…

Abstract LB-017: HSP110 sustains aberrant NFkB signaling in activated B-cell diffuse large B-cell lymphoma through MyD88 stabilization

2017

Abstract Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is an aggressive lymphoproliferative disorder of B lymphocytes accounting for 30 % of adult Non Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL). Among DLBCL, Activated B Cell - DLBCL (ABC-DLBCL) is the most aggressive form and has a poor prognosis. Heat-shock proteins (HSPs) are molecular chaperons highly expressed in cancer cells and implicated in resistance to radio- and chemotherapy. Therefore, HSPs are envisioned as therapeutic targets in many cancers. Among the different HSPs, HSP110 has been recently identified as a pro-survival factor in germinal center-derived DLBCL (GC-DLBCL), through stabilization of the GC-DLBCL oncogene Bcl-6. Here, we have explored if HSP1…

Demonstration of an efficient pumping scheme for a 7.36-nm Ni-like samarium soft x-ray laser

2010

The demonstration of a 7.36 nm Ni-like Sm soft x-ray laser pumped by 36 J of a Nd:glass chirped pulse amplification laser is presented. Double-pulse single-beam non-normal incidence pumping was applied for the efficient soft x-ray laser generation. Here the applied technique included a new single optic focusing geometry for large beam diameters, a single-pass grating compressor traveling-wave tuning capability and an optimized high energy laser double-pulse. This scheme has the potential for even shorter wavelength soft x-ray laser pumping.

<title>New PW stretcher-compressor design for PHELIX laser</title>

2005

With PHELIX (Petawatt High Energy Laser for heavy Ion EXperiments) a high energy/ultra-high intensity laser system is currently under construction at the GSI (Gesellschaft fur SchwerIonenforschung, Germany). In combination with the high current high energy ion accelerator facility this will provide worldwide unique experimental opportunities in the field of dense plasma physics and inertial fusion research. In the long pulse mode the laser system will provide laser pulses of up to 5 kJ in 1-10 ns pulses. In the high intensity mode pulse powers in excess of 1 PW will be achieved. For this the well known technique of chirped pulse amplification (CPA) will be implemented. A new CPA stretcher-c…

Ytterbium-doped fibers for high-power fiber lasers

2021

Ytterbium (Yb) doped optical fibers are widely used in high-power applications and ultrafast lasing since they show adequate power-handling capability and provide desirable beam quality. Yb-doped fibers with large core area can support high power but often act as a multimode fiber and compromise the output beam quality. Hence, it is important to attain a proper balance between the power-handling capability and the beam quality. Yb-doped fibers as a gain medium in pulsed fiber laser systems are prone to nonlinear optical effects due to the presence of high peak power in the ultrashort pulses. Nonlinearity such as self phase modulation (SPM) affects the width and the shape of the pulse, both …

Analysis of trichothecenes in laboratory rat feed by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

2015

A method for the determination of seven trichothecenes, neosolaniol (NEO), diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS), deoxynivalenol (DON), nivalenol (NIV), fusarenon-X (FUS-X), 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-ADON) and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol (15-ADON), in laboratory rat feed by GC-MS/MS was developed. Sample extraction and purification was performed by an acidified mixture of acetonitrile/water (80-20% v/v). Limits of quantitation (LOQs) were between 1 and 10 μg kg(-1) for all studied trichothecenes. Eight concentration levels between the LOQ and 100 × LOQ were used for the calibration curves. Matrix-matched calibration was used for quantitation purposes to compensate the detector signal enhancement obtained fo…

Long-period grating assisted fractional differentiation of highly chirped light pulses

2016

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to perform a fractional differentiation of arbitrary order on a given light pulse by propagation through a single long-period grating. A simple analytical expression is obtained also, relating the fractional order of differentiation with the parameters of the long-period grating. A secant hyperbolic like pulse of 23 ps time width with a chirp parameter of -30 was successfully fractionally differentiated to the 0.5th order. The proposal was corroborated experimentally and numerically. The device may find applications in real time phase recovery. Fil: Poveda Wong, L.. Universidad de Valencia; España Fil: Carrascosa, A.. Energy saving in airports by trigeneration. Part I: Assessing economic and technical potential

2006

Airports are very energy-intensive areas, because of the large buildings (both terminals and non-passengers areas) equipped with heating and air-conditioning systems, the high power demand for lighting and electric equipment and the energy requests from many facilities within the airport area. The contemporaneous and high demand for power and heat makes cogeneration to represent a viable solution for energy saving; in southern climate zones, however, combined heating, cooling and power (CHCP) systems can lead to even better results. This paper constitutes the first part of a work in two parts; starting from an analysis of typical energy demand profiles in airports, economical and technical …
