Microwave surface resistance of pristine and neutron-irradiated MgB2 samples in magnetic field

2008

We report on the microwave surface resistance of two polycrystalline Mg11B2 samples; one consists of pristine material, the other has been irradiated at very high neutron fluence. It has already been reported that in the strongly irradiated sample the two gaps merge into a single value. The mw surface resistance has been measured in the linear regime as a function of the temperature and the DC magnetic field, at increasing and decreasing fields. The results obtained in the strongly irradiated sample are quite well justified in the framework of a generalized Coffey and Clem model, in which we take into account the field distribution inside the sample due to the critical state. The results ob…

Shift of the surface-barrier part of the irreversibility line due to columnar defects in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 thin films

2003

We report the results of studying the influence of the uranium-ion irradiation of the Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8 thin films on the high-temperature part (close to critical temperature) of their irreversibility line. We studied irreversible properties of the films by measuring the hysteresis of nonresonant microwave absorption. The results have revealed the shift of irreversibility line towards low temperatures and magnetic fields. The effect is most significant for the films irradiated with large doses, more than 1T. This fact is in good agreement with the theoretical prediction by Koshelev and Vinokur of suppression of surface barrier by columnar defects.

Evaluation of the displacement energy of Gd atoms in GdBa2Cu3O7−δ from experimental data

1994

Abstract The processing of experimental data on Gd-containing high-temperature superconductor degradation resulting from thermal neutron irradiation has made it possible to evaluate the ratio of the degradation rates of GdBa2Cu3O7−gd enriched with 155Gd and 157Gd isotopes respectively. The defect production in the compound due to (n, γ) reactions on Gd nuclei and consequent recoil of Gd nuclei emitting γ-quanta was simulated with experimentally determined γ-spectra by a Monte Carlo technique. The displacement probabilities pd(155) and pd(157) for different threshold energies Ed and the threshold energy of Gd atom displacement producing disordered bubbles in GdBa2Cu3O7−δ, E d ∗ ≈ 150 eV , we…

Modeling of surface structure formation after laser irradiation

2011

The Stefan problem in a semi-infinite media under laser irradiation is considered. It is related to the melting and solidification processes, resulting in certain surface structure after the solidification. A simple model, as well as a more sophisticated one is proposed to describe this process. The latter model allows us to calculate the surface profile by solving a system of two nonlinear differential equations, if the shape of the solid-liquid interface is known. It has to be found as a solution of two-phases Stefan problem. The results of example calculations by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method are presented, assuming that the solid-liquid interface has a parabolic shape. The calcula…

3D reconstruction of transparent objects exploiting surface fluorescence caused by UV irradiation

2010

In this paper, we present a novel approach exploiting fluorescence imaging to estimate the shape of transparent objects. Classical inspection systems require users to coat transparent objects with some powder before measurement. Methods suggested in literature through non contact measurement do not effectively deal with the refraction problem, thus, providing inaccuracies. The proposed method handles the scanning of transparent objects without using any powder and solving the refraction problem using UV environment. A classical triangulation method based on stereovision scheme using fixed stereoscopic visible range cameras with a fixed UV (Ultra Violet) laser source is implemented. Transpar…

Effects of Ultraviolet Photoactivation on Osseointegration of Commercial Pure Titanium Dental Implant After 8 Weeks in a Rabbit Model

2020

This study investigated whether a 6-Watt ultraviolet C-lamp was capable of producing photofunctionalization on commercial implants during a medium observation term of 8 weeks. A total of 20 implants were inserted in 5 New Zealand rabbits, with each animal receiving 2 implants per tibia (one photofunctionalized and one untreated), according to a previously established randomization sequence. All implants were inserted by a single surgeon following the manufacturer's instructions. Histological analysis was performed by an evaluator who was blinded to the treatment condition. After 8 weeks of healing, the 2 groups showed no statistically significant differences in terms of bone-to-implant cont…

Studies on Flat Sandwich-type Self-Powered Detectors for Flux Measurements in ITER Test Blanket Modules

2018

Neutron and gamma flux measurements in designated positions in the test blanket modules (TBM) of ITER will be important tasks during ITER’s campaigns. As part of the ongoing task on development of nuclear instrumentation for application in European ITER TBMs, experimental investigations on self-powered detectors (SPD) are undertaken. This paper reports the findings of neutron and photon irradiation tests performed with a test SPD in flat sandwich-like geometry. Whereas both neutrons and gammas can be detected with appropriate optimization of geometries, materials and sizes of the components, the present sandwich-like design is more sensitive to gammas than 14 MeV neutrons. Range of SPD curr…

Radiation tolerant fiber Bragg gratings for high temperature monitoring at MGy dose levels

2014

International audience; We report a method for fabricating fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) resistant to very severe environments mixing high radiation doses (up to 3 MGy) and high temperatures (up to 230 degrees C). Such FBGs have been written in two types of radiation resistant optical fibers (pure-silica and fluorine-doped cores) by exposures to a 800 nm femtosecond IR laser at power exceeding 500 mW and then subjected to a thermal annealing treatment of 15 min at 750 degrees C. Under radiation, our study reveals that the radiation induced Bragg wavelength shift (BWS) at a 3 MGy dose is strongly reduced compared to responses of FBGs written with nonoptimized conditions. The BWS remains lower t…

Transition metal ions luminescence in neutron irradiated magnesium oxide

2010

The results of investigation of the photoluminescence (PL), its excitation and optical absorption of MgO crystals doped with different concentrations of transition metals exposed to fast neutron irradiation and after annealing are presented. It is suggested that the 440 nm photoluminescence band belongs to the complex V−OH-Fe3+ center with tetragonal symmetry, the ~730 nm PL band observed in the irradiated MgO crystals is connected with defects, generated as a result of decay of the complex V−OH-Fe3+ centers. The near infrared luminescence bands in MgO crystals are connected with Fe3+-Fe3+ exchange coupled pairs.
